A reveal in the Manifest season 4 trailer means that the series is copying one of Lost’s biggest twists. Ever since the series began, Manifest hasn’t been able to avoid comparisons to the hit ABC series. While there’s no island for the Flight 828 passengers to escape from, there’s certainly some noteworthy similarities between the core concepts that define both shows.

In the Manifest season 4 trailer, Michaela can be heard talking about Flight 828’s disappearance not being an accident. She also says, “You didn’t fly into the storm. It flew into us. It chose us.” This is a game-changing discovery, but also one that mimics a major Lost reveal. The show’s main characters eventually found out that each of them was secretly selected by Jacob. It was by his design that Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Hurley, and all the rest were on Ocean 815 when Desmond’s failure to push the button triggered the crash. From the looks of things, Manifest’s passengers are about to experience a similar – if not identical – realization.

Is The Divine Consciousness Manifest’s Answer To Jacob?

LOST Jacob Hurley

As Ben says in the trailer, a “divine consciousness” appears to be the driving force behind everything that’s happened in the show, which sounds a lot like Jacob’s purpose in Lost, which wasn’t explained in full until the show’s final season. It would seem that in the case of Manifest, it too is saving this sort of reveal for the last season. They’ve known for a long time that several disappearances and the people involved are connected somehow, but they haven’t understood the details yet. From the looks of things, Manifest has made a “divine consciousness” the explanation for all of it.

As for what it is exactly that the passengers are about to figure out, it seems it was this higher power, which is most likely God, that selected each person to be on the plane when it disappeared. And based on the “it’s all connected” line that’s been so prevalent in the series, it stands to reason that it also chose everyone else who’s been previously subjected to this phenomenon, including Al-Zuras and his crew, Zeke, the three meth addicts, and more. That would further demonstrate that the divine consciousness is the Manifest equivalent of Jacob, especially since it’s known that many of the people that were already on the island were there because of him.

What could set Manifest’s “divine consciousness” reveal from Lost’s Jacob twist is the point of it all. In Lost, it was to pick a replacement who could stop Man the Black and protect the island’s energy source. Whether it be the prevention of an apocalypse-level disaster or something different, what Manifest’s Flight 828 passengers are meant to do is still one of the show’s biggest mysteries. In this respect, the series has the potential to deliver a unique twist that separates it entirely from Lost’s story and ends the comparisons at the same time.
