The heightened interest surrounding Manifest makes it worth wondering if the cancelled series can still be revived for season 4. Following the airing of the season 3 finale, NBC officially pulled the plug on the show, which has been on the decline in the ratings since its second season. Coinciding with the cancellation was the release of the first two seasons on Netflix. Surprisingly, the show quickly rose to the top of the Netflix charts and was able to hold the #1 spot for more than two weeks.

It impressively outperformed some Netflix originals, and what made its popularity even more remarkable was the fact it’s been able to maintain interest regardless of the cancellation news. A few days after attaining success on Netflix, hopes were dashed when it was reported the streaming platform has passed on taking over and making Manifest season 4. However, the series hasn’t gone away yet and is continuing to hold strong. In fact, it came very close to Tiger King’s record for having the longest #1 streak on Netflix.

Netflix’s decision doesn’t necessarily mean the show’s chances of coming back are dead. Manifest showrunner Jeff Rake recently pointed out in an interview with EW that Netflix made this choice before its huge success, meaning the platform might have a different position now when looking at how well it’s still doing. In other words, Netflix could change their minds. But since the service seems to be more interested in developing their own Netflix originals, this outcome feels unlikely. Netflix’s initial reaction may have been to pass, but the numbers put up by Manifest seasons 1 and 2 might be enough to tempt them into pulling the trigger and picking up the show.

A scenario that has a better chance of happening is a two-hour Manifest movie to wrap up the loose ends left by the finale and the previous seasons. Rake originally had a six-season plan but has since stated he’s working on a movie since this idea is more feasible than seasons 4, 5, and 6 being made at this point. It would be an early ending for Manifest for sure and not the one fans originally hoped for, but it would at least provide some much-needed closure for the show's biggest mysteries. The idea worked for NBC’s Timeless and could do the same for this series.

There are a few possible options in terms of who might greenlight Rake’s Manifest movie concept, one of which being NBC, the network that cancelled the show in the first place. Netflix could take interest in it too, as it could stand a good chance at being a strong hit for the platform that builds off the success the first two seasons have seen. Thirdly, there’s NBC’s own streaming service, Peacock. So with all things considered, Manifest does have ways of getting a proper ending in some form.
