The Mandalorian season 1 episode 6 featured a memorable jab about the poor aiming abilities of stormtroopers directed at Bill Burr's Mayfeld, which was subtly paid off during the character's season 2 return. While there had been plenty of animated shows based on Star Wars, Disney+ series The Mandalorian marked the franchise's first outing as a live-action TV series. It cast Pedro Pascal in the title role as a stoic bounty hunter who ends up becoming the protector/surrogate father to a Force-sensitive child named Grogu.

The Mandolorian has proven enormously popular since it began and is an addictive adventure that blends the Star Wars universe with spaghetti westerns. The show's episodic nature allows Mando to travel to all kinds of different planets and encounter memorable supporting players, such as Amy Sedaris' Peli Motto or Timothy Olyphant's Cobb Vanth. Maybe one of the most popular is Migs Mayfeld, a tough-talking mercenary played by comedian Bill Burr.

Despite the fact the Bill Burr Mandorlorian character is basically just Bill Burr in space, Mayfeld has been a big hit with viewers. He's introduced in The Mandalorian episode 6 "The Prisoner," where the title character is hired as part of a crew to rescue a prisoner from a New Republic ship. This ragtag team includes droid Q9-0, Devaronian Burg (Clancy Brown), Twi'lek Xi'an (Natalia Tena) and Mayfeld. When Mando is introduced to the latter he's told about his past as an Imperial sharpshooter to which Mando retorts "That's not saying much." This is a meta gag about the notoriously poor accurately of stormtroopers, and an insulted Mayfeld is quick to point out he wasn't a stormtrooper.

The Mandorlarion episode 6 ends with the team attempting to betray Mando, but he outsmarts them and Mayfeld ends up being captured on the prison transport. He returned once again for season 2's "The Believer," where the imprisoned Mayfeld is forced to help Mando in his quest to rescue Grogu from Moff Gideon. Part of the episode plays like a loving tribute to The Wages Of Fear and its remake Sorceror as the pair drive a truck filled with rhydonium to an Imperial base. The rhydonium is highly explosive and sensitive, so in addition to driving with care, they have to fend off pirate attacks.

The Mandalorian season 2 fills in some more of Mayfeld's backstory when he encounters his former commanding officer Hess. Mayfeld and Mando are forced to have a drink with Hess to maintain their cover, but Mayfeld can't resist the impulse to shoot Hess when talking of an old operation that resulted in heavy civilian and Imperial officer casualties. The two then escape on Boba Fett's Slave I, but Mayfeld decides to work out his karma by taking a sniper rifle and with one well-placed shot, he detonates some rhydonium that destroys the whole base.

On one hand, it's a satisfying conclusion to Mayfeld's arc in "The Believer," but it also nods back to his introduction in The Mandalorian episode 6 too. He already proved he was a good shot but taking out an entire refinery with just one round from a long distance should dispel any doubt about his shooting abilities.
