Giancarlo Esposito revealed his character in The Mandalorian could be force sensitive. Esposito is best known for his role as kingpin Gustavo Fring in Breaking BadHe returned to the small screen as the dark-saber wielding Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian.

After the fall of the Empire, Gideon eventually rose to the rank of Moff and led an imperial remnant force of various troopers stationed out of the planet Nevarro. When he made his first appearance in the penultimate episode of the first season of The Mandalorian, it was revealed that Moff Gideon was now the wielder of an old weapon known as the Darksaber, which was last seen during The Clone Wars. The fact that he has this legendary weapon is a stunning revelation. It also makes Gideon a significant threat to the Mandalorian and the "baby Yoda" he's protecting - referred to onscreen as The Child. After being hired by the Client, another former Imperial, Moff Gideon made it his mission to capture the force-sensitive child from the Mandalorian and his team.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight to promote his appearance in the new video game, Far Cry 6, the conversation turned to his character in The Mandalorian, and what his role would be in the upcoming season. Esposito, as enigmatically as he could, hinted that his character might be force sensitive. "To have this saber means that I can use it, and I can do my own dirty work, that I'm a fighter, that I'm a warrior. That's part of me. It also creates the possibility that he is one of the ones. He possibly has that, and that to me is interesting because is he really that fallen hero? Is he a descendant of Darth Vader? Who is he," Esposito wondered.

Moff Gideon emerges from his crashed TIE fighter with the darksaber in The Mandalorian

Canonically speaking, it would not be impossible for Gideon to be force sensitive. As revealed in The Last Jedi, there are in fact force-sensitive beings all around the galaxy, and they do not have to be limited to who is a Jedi or Sith, so Moff having this ability would not be too far fetched. However, the notion that he could be a descendant of Darth Vader himself seems a little impossible, seeing as The Mandalorian only takes place five years after the Sith Lord's death during the fall of the Empire.

At the end of season 1 of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin and company has presumed Gideon dead, after the crash of his TIE Fighter, before the former left for another planet with The Child in tow. Much to their dismay, it turns out former Galactic Empire officer survived the crash, and cut himself free from the wreckage using his Darksaber. Aside from these few details, not much is known about Esposito's character in the upcoming season, but it is safe to presume that he will continue his pursuit for The Child. Now on his own, it's also likely that a lot more about the character, and hopefully his past, will be revealed.
