There is perhaps no character on television in recent memory that has become more of a phenomenon than Baby Yoda from The Mandalorian. The Disney+ Star Wars series introduced this amazing new character in its first episode as an innocent target who the Mandalorian must protect from some nefarious characters.

Apart from being ridiculously cute, the character is also a fascinating addition to the Star Wars universe. It introduces many cool possibilities and raises many interesting questions. With the second season already shooting, we can look forward to what more the character will bring. Here are some things we want from Baby Yoda in Season 2 of The Mandalorian.

Species

Something that has been pointed out by many Star Wars fans is that the character should not actually be called Baby Yoda since it is not the Yoda we know, and Yoda is simply the name of a character, not the name of the species. That brings up the obvious question of what the species is.

It's interesting that, despite being such a famous character, not a lot has been explored about Yoda and his species. Baby Yoda gives the perfect opportunity for that as we can discover what they are, where they come from, and the many mysteries around their species.

A Name

Baby Yoda plays hide and seek in The Mandalorian

Since Star Wars fans seem to have a problem with Baby Yoda as an official name, it would be nice to find out what its real name is. It is sometimes referred to on the show as "the Child," but that's even less catchy.

Perhaps some of the villains who are chasing the creature know more about it so we can learn its actual name in the new season. It could be that Baby Yoda's actual name reveals some deep-cut connection to the overall Star Wars universe as well.

Connection To Yoda

Just because the character isn't actually Yoda doesn't mean that there isn't some connection between the two characters. While the fact that they are the same species doesn't necessarily mean the two characters are related, it would make a lot of sense if they were.

It would be strange if the entire species was Force-sensitive, and would make more sense if Baby Yoda had these powers due to a connection with Yoda. It would also help to explain why the Imperials want the creature so badly if it is connected to one of their longest enemies.

Why So Special?

Despite being introduced as a target in the very first episode, we never get a clear sense of why Baby Yoda is such an important target. One could assume that the fact that it is Force-sensitive could be the reason, but what do they mean to do with it once they capture it?

Clearly there was some intention to experiment on it to learn something. However, some of the people who were chasing it seemed to want it dead. Hopefully, we will learn about the true reason it has been targeted in the second season as it's still unclear what is at stake.

Family

Baby Yoda pushes buttons in The Mandalorian

When we are introduced to Baby Yoda, it is all on its own and being held by some unfriendly characters. Presumably, it would have been taken from its home at a young age, but there are still the questions of where it comes from and if it has any family left.

Season 2 could have the Mandalorian searching for Baby Yoda's people or maybe even its homeworld. This could answer a lot of questions about the character as well as reveal some interesting new elements about Yoda, the Force and beyond.

Enemies

The Mandalorian Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon

One of the most interesting elements of the show is seeing how the dynamics of the universe have shifted following the death of the Emperor and the fall on the Empire. Those who were in power may be on the ropes, but they clearly still have some plans.

The people who are after Baby Yoda are affiliated with the old Empire, and seemingly led by Grand Moff Gideon. He has a small army of stormtroopers and considerable weaponry at his disposal, but what is he trying to accomplish, and is he working for someone else?

What Does It Mean?

Baby Yoda wants to be picked up in The Mandalorian

The introduction of Baby Yoda as a character brings up a ton of questions about the larger franchise that we hope becomes clearer in the next season. This story takes place after the events of the first trilogy and before the events of the new trilogy, so what impact would Baby Yoda have in the future?

It would indicate that there are more Jedi out there. Would Baby Yoda eventually become involved in Luke's new Jedi order? Do the people hunting him down have anything to do with what will become the First Order?

Bond With Mando

The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda made for an adorable pair in the first season even if they didn't always see eye-to-eye. However, as they seem to have formed an attachment that will continue, it would be nice to see that friendship grow a little.

While neither of them are big talkers, hopefully they find a way to communicate with each other more and form a rapport. It might also be nice if taking care of Baby Yoda helps the Mandalorian lighten up a little bit.

More Action

The show was certainly an action-packed series from start to finish, and a lot of that action revolved around Baby Yoda. However, the character itself never really got too involved. Maybe that will change in Season 2.

We've seen that Baby Yoda has some Jedi powers, so perhaps it will get the chance to really show them off in a fight. Season 2 has already teased an epic lightsaber duel. Is it too much to hope for that Baby Yoda gets to wield a tiny, adorable lightsaber?

More Cuteness

As interesting as the character is for the universe at large, it's quite clear that the main reason Baby Yoda has taken off so much is that it happens to be the cutest thing in the entire world. Disney sure knew what they were doing when they designed this character as the world instantly fell in love with it.

A lot of that has to do with the practical effects of the character, which are incredibly effective. If the show keeps that up and continues to find new ways for Baby Yoda to be adorable, they will continue to win the hearts of fans everywhere.
