Star Wars has confirmed The Mandalorian's Imperial scientists are subtly connected to the cloners of Kamino. When Baby Yoda made his debut in The Mandalorian season 1, he was a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. The Force-sensitive infant is only the third member of Yoda's species to appear in Star Wars canon, and naturally there was intense speculation about his origins.

One thing was for certain; the Empire wanted Baby Yoda, and they were prepared to go to any lengths to acquire him. Attentive viewers noticed what appeared to be a Kamino logo worn by the Imperial scientist Dr. Pershing, which prompted speculation Baby Yoda was actually a clone. That theory has now been disproven; Ahsoka Tano has revealed the Child (whose real name is Grogu) was actually brought up at the Jedi Temple, and was somehow rescued from the Jedi Purge. Still, Lucasfilm has now confirmed there is indeed a connection with the cloners of Kamino.

Screen Rant has a copy of Lucasfilm's The Art of The Mandalorian, and in it Lucasfilm confirms the Imperial science logo was indeed a deliberate call-back to the Kamino insignia. "The symbol Dr. Pershing has on the right shoulder of his Imperial scientist uniform was inspired by the emblem first seen on the Kamino-based clone soldiers in 2002's Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones," the book notes.

The Mandalorian Dr Pershing Baby Yoda

The Mandalorian season 2, episode 4 revealed Dr. Pershing is attempting to transfuse Grogu's midichlorians into test subjects. All of Yoda's species appear to be strongly attuned to the Force, and thus possess an unusually high concentration of midichlorians. If Dr. Pershing can find a way to pull this off, then he can actually create Force-sensitives on demand. No longer would be the Force be an ability granted by a coincidence of birth; the Empire would be able to choose their most skilled and loyal soldiers, and grant them the power of the dark side.

It's possible, then, that Dr. Pershing's logo actually indicates he is simply a geneticist and biologist, someone who has perhaps stumbled upon the secret of midichlorians. It wouldn't necessarily mean he's worked with Kaminoans before. Alternatively, though, there's speculation this Imperial project will ultimately create Supreme Leader Snoke, suggesting Dr. Pershing may actually be an expert in the field of genetic engineering. If that is indeed the case, then this particular logo may actually be a lot more specific, suggesting Dr. Pershing is part of a smaller group of specialists who have strong ties to the cloners of Kamino. Hopefully it won't be long before The Mandalorian reveals more about the Empire's dangerous projects.
