The Mandalorian theme receives a heavy metal remix. There are many reasons why Star Wars' first live-action series is the most popular show on Disney+. Setting the cuteness of Baby Yoda/Grogu aside, composer Ludwig Goransson's iconic melodic main theme for The Mandalorian has helped define the show from a musical standpoint.

Another big part of why The Mandalorian is still all the rage two seasons in is the way the show can stand alone from the Skywalker saga. Din Djarin and Baby Yoda may discover Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker's former Padawan, and could possibly run into Luke Skywalker, but the charm of The Mandalorian is that Djarin knows next to nothing about the Jedi (or even about his own Mandalorian history.) This is another reason why Goransson's musical work is key to allowing The Mandalorian to stand on its own as a series. Rather than constantly borrow from or evoke John Williams' legendary Star Wars melodies, Goransson's score is just as independent and low-key as Djarin himself, but still grandiose when the moment calls for it in the show musically.

The YouTube channel Megaraptor took the Mandalorian main theme up a notch. They remixed it into a heavy metal cover that does the original song justice. Take a listen to the entire heavy metal cut below, complete with an introduction by Baby Yoda himself.

It's hard not to imagine Djarin completely destroying the evil Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) and his band of Dark Troopers when listening to this track. It's a surprisingly good fit for the show and maintains the spirit of the original theme. Goransson, who also composed the score for 2018's Black Panther, really did a fantastic job of capturing the essence of The Mandalorian with the main theme, and that shines through in the remix. Mixing guitar, piano, and drums with recorders was quite creative, and it's impossible to imagine the show without its iconic musical theme. Goransson has shown in the past he approves of fun spins on the melody, liking a Mandalorian theme cat meme video that featured a cat bobbing its head to the song.

One thing that has defined Star Wars over the years is its iconic melodies. The Mandalorian main theme honors this musical legacy, defining the show about a Mandalorian just doing his best to keep his little green kid safe in a dangerous galaxy. Viewers will be able to see how it continues to unfold when The Mandalorian season 2 finale airs this week.
