Din Djarin wields two Darksabers in an epic piece of Mandalorian art celebrating the launch of season 2. Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian, the first live-action Star Wars series starring Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) and premiering on Disney+ last year, has been a hit with both fans and critics alike. Set several years after the original trilogy, the action drama plays like a western set in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin, more often referred to as “Mando,” becomes a self-appointed caretaker of a mysterious force-sensitive child, which the remnants of the Empire are trying to get their hands on.

As mysterious as the titular character and his young, green ward is the mythical Darksaber. It was first introduced into the Star Wars canon by way of the animated series The Clone Wars, as the weapon of Mandalorian Death Watch commando, Pre Vizsla. Over a thousand years old, the Darksaber is said to have been created by the first Mandalorian Jedi. Since Vizsla, it has found ownership in several Star Wars characters, including Darth Maul and Star Wars Rebels Sabine Wren. It was last seen in The Mandalorian season 1 finale, in the hands of the Empire’s Moff Gideon, played by Giancarlo Esposito (The Boys), as he emerged from his fallen Outlander TIE fighter.

Season 2 of The Mandalorian got underway this past weekend, and with it, the fan celebration of its characters and its potential brewing stories. Some unique fan art has surfaced, courtesy of Twitter user Mizuriau, depicting Din Djarin dual wielding twin Darksabers. The picture is an edit off poster art from The Force Unleashed 2 video game from 2010, with Djarin replacing Starkiller in the image and double Darksabers taking the place of the two blue lightsabers. You can check it out below:

The Darksaber is said to be a singular, unique weapon, so the possibility of a pair of them being acquired by Djarin’s is low. However, the image does speak to what is known for a certainty this season, as Djarin gets further wrapped up in Jedi lore. In uncovering the secrets of The Child, affectionately referred to by fans as “Baby Yoda,” Djarin and Moff Gideon will cross paths once again. And as fans learned from this season’s premiere, Mando doesn’t take kindly to non-Mandalorian’s brandishing Mandalorian property so that the Darksaber could wind up in his hands after all.

The Mandalorian’s reintroduction of the Darksaber has been one of the many welcome aspects of the series. Many fans view the show as the more worthy successor to the Star Wars mythos over the enormously divisive Disney trilogy of films, and how the Darksaber ultimately falls into the possession of Moff Gideon is a hotly contested query. Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica), who was the original voice of Lady Bo-Katan Kryze in Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, has been cast to reprise the role in The Mandalorian season 2. As the last known Mandalorian owner of the blade, whether she is seen in a flashback or as a present-day rival or an ally for Mando, she’s sure to provide some much-needed answers to those questions.
