Disney+’s The Mandalorian will be getting a season 4, according to series regular Giancarlo Esposito. The hit Star Wars spin-off hasn’t even begun its second season yet, but already fans are ecstatic over what sort of prospects might lie ahead.

After completing its first season just before the new year, the series managed to get its second season under wraps before the COVID-19 pandemic took firm root worldwide. This left The Mandalorian free of the sort of delays that have wreaked havoc on so many other productions. There’s no doubt the series has always been one step ahead in its creative processes, and this is likely attributable to the fact that there are so many options for the vast world that the series inhabits. As fans count down the days until the second season premiers on October 30th, there’s also been plenty of excitement over the show’s 7 Emmy wins as well as official word arriving that a third season is already in development. It seems that series creator Jon Favreau and the writers are in the midst of an incredibly creative period right now, much to the delight of many.

As things currently stand, the news keeps getting better for fans of the acclaimed series. During a recent People interview with Giancarlo Esposito, The Mandalorian star made it known that a fourth season of the series is also in the works. While speaking about the vastness of the Star Wars universe and the possibilities that exist for expanding on what fans already know about it, Esposito – who plays the evil Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian – said the following:

"We’re living in a universe that is huge and there’s so much to explore. So I think this show is going to lay the ground work for the depth and breath that’s gonna come in season 3 and season 4, where you’re really gonna start to get answers."

Given the gradual manner The Mandalorian seems to be unfolding its story, news of a fourth season shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to fans. However, that doesn’t mean that it isn’t still an exhilarating prospect. It’s hard to imagine exactly what a third season will entail, let alone a fourth season. But of course, attempting to make sense of this Star Wars riddle is one of the most appealing aspects of the entire series. The future of Baby Yoda and the search for others like him is enough to carry a full season if need be. Yet considering how layered the first season of the series was, it’s almost a guarantee that there will be much more going on than just the story of the show’s most beloved character.

While news of a fourth season is undoubtedly satisfying, hopefully, Favreau and the rest of The Mandalorian’s creative team don’t take on too much, too soon. Fans undoubtedly love to know that more of the series is on its way, but if the rapid proliferation of Star Wars films since 2015 has shown anything, it’s that too much of a good thing too soon can sometimes cause problems. For now, the pacing of The Mandalorian feels perfect, and the future looks very bright.
