A new trailer for The Mandalorian season 3 has been released, teasing the return of Hayden Christensen's Anakin Skywalker with an all-new Star Wars cameo. Featuring the recently reunited Din Djarin and Grogu, the trailer shows that the young child has decided to become a Mandalorian like his adoptive father. However, it looks as though Grogu will continue to experience flashbacks to his traumatic past with the Jedi Order.

As seen in the new trailer for The Mandalorian season 3, Grogu is adventuring with Din Djarin in his modified N-1 Naboo starfighter, first seen in The Book of Boba Fett where Grogu abandoned his Jedi training with Luke Skywalker as well. While Djarin will be seeking forgiveness for his past sins with a pilgrimage to Mandalore, it looks as though Grogu will still be grappling with his dark past. This includes the fateful night of the Jedi Purge known as Order 66, which opens up the opportunity for Anakin Skywalker to appear.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Trailer's Order 66 Flashback Explained

Order 66 Flashback in Mandalorian Season 3

In the new trailer, Grogu experiences a brand-new flashback to Order 66, the night he somehow survived when Anakin Skywalker and his clone troops stormed the Jedi Temple and slaughtered the countless members within its walls. While Grogu somehow escaped, this particular flashback in The Mandalorian season 3 features a team of Jedi protecting the young child while someone else attempts to cut their way through a sealed door from the other side. While this could be a simple squad of clone troopers serving the new Empire, it looks an awful lot like when lightsabers have been used to cut through doors.

Anakin Skywalker himself may very well be on the other side of that door, potentially teasing a brand-new cameo appearance for the recently corrupted Jedi Knight. As such, viewers may soon witness a face-to-face encounter between the newly christened Darth Vader and Grogu, a major moment in the Star Wars canon that would certainly carry some strong significance going forward. It would certainly tie the child even closer to the Skywalker legacy even more than he already is.

Will Hayden Christensen Appear In The Mandalorian Season 3?

Hayden Christensen's Anakin Skywalker in Order 66

An appearance from Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker in The Mandalorian season 3 wouldn't be the first cameo the actor has recently made. 2022's Obi-Wan Kenobi series saw Christensen reprising his role not only as Darth Vader in his iconic black armor, but also in flashbacks as Obi-Wan's apprentice as well as Anakin's massacre at the Jedi Temple. As such, it's certainly possible that Lucasfilm filmed its Order 66 flashbacks with Christensen for multiple series beyond just Obi-Wan Kenobi.

At any rate, an Anakin Skywalker cameo would be very exciting for The Mandalorian season 3. Even if it's without Christensen, it's possible that the corrupted Jedi could be seen from a distance (or is simply behind that sealed door). At the very least, the new trailer does suggest that audiences will finally learn how Grogu survived the Jedi Purge when the new season releases on March 1st.
