The Mandalorian actor Giancarlo Esposito joked that his character Moff Gideon will kill Baby Yoda in season 3. The Disney+ series is the first live-action show within the Star Wars universe. Jon Favreau's (Iron Man) The Mandalorian debuted on the streaming platform in 2019. Two seasons have been released thus far and several spin-off series are in the works, including The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka.
At the end of the second season, Moff was shocked to discover that Luke Skywalker would intervene and save Baby Yoda from an attack. When he knew that he had been defeated, he tried to kill Bo-Katan and Baby Yoda, also known as Grogu. When he failed to do that, he tried to kill himself. Before he was able to, he was knocked out by Dune. A third season of The Mandalorian was announced on April 21, 2021, which is set to be released sometime in 2022 on Disney+.
In an interview with WRAL, Esposito talked about the upcoming third season of The Mandalorian. He joked around a fair amount, exclaiming that he would just say what happens from start to finish of the new season. When asked about the extent that he's starring in it, he continued joking, saying that he will be finally killing Baby Yoda. He quickly asserted that won't happen, but that he wants to hold out hope for his character. See below for Esposito's statement:
“Yes, you’re going to see me kill this baby. (laughs) How about that? It’s totally wrong, but you know what, I gotta hold out somewhere that I’m going to win.”
The character of Moff isn't the first time that Esposito has played an intimidating character. He's also famously known for his performance as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad. He has been nominated for five Primetime Emmy Awards spread across his work in The Mandalorian, Breaking Bad, and Better Call Saul. The actor said that the third season of the Disney+ show was slated to start filming after The Book of Boba Fett has wrapped. With him set to return in season 3, audiences will get to see more of Moff in the future.
Baby Yoda quickly became a pop culture sensation after he was introduced in The Mandalorian. The adorable creature became the focus of countless memes and all kinds of merchandise. While he looks incredibly innocent, it's clear that he holds a lot of power, even though he's still considered to be a baby for his species. Without a doubt, fans of the series would be incredibly upset if the character were to be killed off. However, it makes sense for Esposito to hold out hope that not everything turns to dust for his character, even if he's the antagonist.
