With The Mandalorian season 3 on the horizon for next year, Din Djarin’s cramped Naboo starfighter might not be the best choice for his future endeavors. Since the Razor Crest was destroyed by Moff Gideon’s light cruiser in The Mandalorian season 2, Din was forced to find a new means of transport during the events of The Book of Boba Fett. He settled on Peli Motto’s old Naboo starfighter. Despite heavily upgrading and outfitting it with the best she has to offer, it doesn’t seem to live up to the capabilities his Razor Crest boasted.

The main problem of his new N-1 starfighter is its space. Before the Razor Crest’s destruction in The Mandalorian, Din had a spacious cargo, which he utilized to the fullest. From carbon-freezing dangerous bounties to ferrying passengers, the Razor Crest allowed Din to complete his various bounties with relative ease. Meanwhile, his new ship has just enough space for him and Grogu. While it affords him much greater maneuverability and speed than his Razor Crest, it lacks the practicality needed for his bounty-hunting profession—something he may sorely miss in the upcoming season.

Why Has The Mandalorian Decided To Use The Naboo Starfighter

The Mandalorian Flying His N-1 Ship

Despite being a fantastic, nostalgic callback to The Phantom Menace, Din’s new starfighter seems to be more of a downgrade than an upgrade. With this in mind, it’s puzzling why he chose to go with the speed of a Naboo starfighter versus trying to find something more akin to his old Razor Crest. The most likely reason is that he simply didn’t have the resources or time to go ship-shopping, and that Motto’s offer was better than nothing. But it’s also possible that he intends to drop most of his bounty hunting in season 3 and beyond.

Din Djarin Already Needs Another New Ship In The Mandalorian Season 3

Even if Din plans to drop his bounty hunting in the Mandalorian season 3 in favor of training Grogu in the Way, the fact remains that he’ll need a better ship. Being stuck in the cramped cockpit of the N-1 is not ideal for him when he needs to stretch and be at his physical peak, especially if Din plans to duel Bo-Katan for the throne of Mandalore. He has the edge if he ever gets in a dogfight, but in the long stretches of flight in between those brief occasions, he and Grogu can barely move in the small ship.

The trailer for the Mandalorian season 3 depicts Din and Grogu fleeing from five unknown enemy ships through an asteroid field in his Naboo starfighter. Regardless of whether Din upgrades his ship at some point, he will put it to some good use in the next season. And despite the lack of space and functionality it affords him, at least Grogu seems to thoroughly enjoy how speedy it is. With the potential civil war brewing in the Mandalorian season 3, Din would do well to get a bigger ship to help him and Grogu prepare for their upcoming adventure.
