Carl Weathers, star of Disney+'s The Mandalorian, says that he will begin filming for season 3 of the show starting tomorrow (October 13). The Mandalorian's first two seasons released back-to-back in consecutive years from 2019 to 2020, making 2021 the first year without a new season for the show. Favreau and co. have chosen to step aside this year to make way for Robert Rodriguez's upcoming The Book of Boba Fett spinoff series, which is set to release at the end of December. Details on both series are scant due to Lucasfilm's trademark commitment to secrecy.

The Mandalorian concluded its second season late last year with a finale that had audiences buzzing about the return of a young Luke Skywalker. Since then, fans have been pining to know more about the ultimate fate of the adorable alien infant, Grogu, who leaves with Luke in the final moments of the season's final episode. News about the show's season 3 has been slow, with Lucasfilm more concerned with promoting their pressing upcoming series such as The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Now, with confirmation from Weathers himself, the show seems to be ramping up production in time to meet its 2022 release next year.

Weathers tweeted confirmation that he will film for The Mandalorian season 3 beginning tomorrow. He teases the return of his character, saying that "Greef Karga will be back on Disney+." Check out the actor's full tweet below:

Greef Karga played a significant role within season 1 of The Mandalorian, starring in each of arguably the most popular episodes from that season. However, he was cast aside in season 2 to make room for Gina Carano's Cara Dune – a role that the actress will not be reprising in light of controversial political remarks she made last year. With Cara Dune out of the picture, it makes sense for Karga to have a more substantial role in The Mandalorian moving forward given that the pair were closely associated with each other on the volcanic planet of Nevarro.

Although The Mandalorian season 3 isn't set to release for another year, it's possible that Weathers may reprise his role sooner than that. Recent reports claim that The Book of Boba Fett is nearly The Mandalorian season 2.5 given the overlapping story threads and familiar faces. It's entirely possible that Greef Karga may be one of the characters to make the leap between series. Hopefully Robert Rodriguez's Boba Fett-centric spinoff series will tide fans of The Mandalorian over until season 3 hits Disney+ in 2022.
