Katee Sackoff has teased the future of Bo-Katan in season 3 of The Mandalorian during a recent interview. Sackoff played the character in her live-action debut, after years of voicing the character in animation in "Chapter Eleven: The Heiress," during the show's season 2. The character later rejoined Pedro Pascal's protagonist, Din Djarin, in the season finale, "Chapter 16: The Rescue."
Bo-Katan Kryze is one of modern Star Wars' most explored characters, having appeared in multiple shows across many different eras of the franchise's canon. The character first appeared in season 4, episode 14 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, "A Friend In Need," as part of Mandalorian faction Death Watch, voiced by Sackoff. Bo-Katan later became a reoccurring character in later seasons. She appeared during the two-part opening story of season 4 of Star Wars: Rebels, "Heroes of Mandalore," where she first fought the Empire alongside the Ghost crew. She finally crossed over into live-action during The Mandalorian season 2, portrayed by Sackoff as she assisted Din in reuniting Grogu with the Jedi, before rescuing the child from Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) in the season finale.
In an interview with Slashfilm surrounding the release of her latest film, Night of the Animated Dead, Sackoff was asked about the future of Bo-Katan in upcoming seasons of the hit Disney+ series. Sackoff teased that season 2 left the character in a position where she could explore any "unfinished business" she might have. The actress then quickly confirmed that, ultimately, knowing the season 3 storyline is "above her pay grade," but looks forward to see what the writers come up with as a fan herself. "The way that Lucasfilm left me in season 2, one of the roads that could be gone down — absolutely, you'd think — would be the unfinished business. But that is so far above my pay grade, and you just don't know, right? As a fan of the show, I'm just excited to see what they come up with."
Following The Mandalorian season 2, Bo-Katan is placed in a complex situation. Having lost the Darksaber following Star Wars: Rebels and her claim to the Mandalorian throne, the warrior is slowly rebuilding Mandalorian forces by striking and stealing from the Imperial remnants, while also hunting for Gideon to reclaim the weapon. However, in the finale of season 2, Gideon is defeated by Din, who claims the weapon for Bo-Katan, not knowing that the only way to claim leadership is through combat and the killing of the former owner. As such, Bo-Katan is forced to reckon with her Mandalorian traditions and her ally.
Bo-Katan is one of Star Wars' most defined and beloved characters in the current era, with the character's life being explored and developed across her appearances. As such, she is one of the characters that audiences have the most emotional investment in. The Mandalorian season 2 presents the character with a difficult position that audiences haven't yet seen her in, with Bo-Katan previously being established as dedicated to Mandalore's traditions. This has always been the case whether for the light or dark sides, or even against family, as was the case with her sister Duchess Satine in The Clone Wars. Bo-Katan having to choose between the old ways and allowing Din to lead will give audiences a glimpse of how her long career on the frontline, as well as her victories and defeats, have changed her across both the times of the Republic and the Empire.
