The Mandalorian has reportedly added WWE star Sasha Banks to its cast for season 2. The Disney+ series is set to return in October 2020 and filming is currently underway on its second season. Premiering last fall, The Mandalorian quickly became a pop culture sensation thanks in large part to popularity of "The Child" - an adorable character better known the world over as Baby Yoda - who stole the show week after week.

Add to that, though, The Mandalorian's captivating lead, intriguing story, and stunning effects - including its ground-breaking use of Stagecraft technology - and the show easily became the best new Star Wars property around. In fact, Disney was so confident in The Mandalorian's success they greenlit a season 2 before the show even premiered. Now that fans have seen season 1, the hype for The Mandalorian season 2 is off the charts. And if this latest casting rumor holds true, get ready for that hype to grow even bigger.

Originally reported by Mat Men Pro Wrestling and later corroborated by Pro Wrestling Sheet, wrestler Sasha Banks is said to have a role in The Mandalorian season 2. There are no further details on the nature of her role, like whether or not it's a substantial, minor, or cameo role, but Banks has reportedly already filmed her scenes for the series. Banks' last appearance for the WWE came during the January 3rd episode of SmackDown, and she hasn't wrestled since. The reasoning for her absence has been given as an ankle injury, but this report of her having a role in The Mandalorian raises some suspicion that may just be cover story. Then again, it's possible the ankle injury is serious enough to keep her out of the ring, but not off set for the Disney+ series.

The Mandalorian has previously looked beyond the normal pool of actors when casting. Season 1 saw former MMA fighter Gina Carano as Cara Dune, director Werner Herzog as the mysterious Client, and comedian Bill Burr as the mercenary, Mayfeld. Of course, while each of them may have risen to fame in their respective fields, The Mandalorian was not their first acting gig. Banks, on the other hand, hasn't acted outside of the ring and a role on The Mandalorian would be her first non-wrestling acting role. Still, it's hard to argue with The Mandalorian's track record when it comes to casting - especially in the case of smaller roles that appear in just a single episode. Chances are, Banks' role is more along the lines of a one-off appearance, something that gives her the exposure that comes with a Star Wars role but isn't so major that the success of an entire season hinges on it.

Only time will tell if Banks really does have a role in The Mandalorian season 2, but if so, it'll be interesting to see in what capacity she's involved. Will she have a role where she's visible, or might be she hidden behind alien prosthetics or a mask? As a wrestler, it'd make sense for her to have been chosen for her physicality, making her an impressive addition to the action-heavy show. Whatever part she has to play in the series, "The Boss" is sure to give it her all.
