The first trailer for The Mandalorian season 2 has been released, but there's no sign of the much-hyped arrivals Ahsoka Tano and Boba Fett. The debut season of The Mandalorian was a huge success for Disney+, and season 2 is expected to be even bigger in scope. As well as continuing the adventures of Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Baby Yoda, The Mandalorian season 2 is also expected to bring several fan-favorite Star Wars characters into the fold.

Chief among them are Ahsoka Tano and Boba Fett. It was reported in March 2020 that Rosario Dawson had been cast as Ahsoka, and a few months later came the news that Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, would be appearing as Boba in season 2 as well. Given they are two major figures in the Star Wars universe, the news understandably caused a lot of excitement for The Mandalorian's upcoming run, as well as speculation on just how they might fit in, but the trailer isn't giving anything away.

Instead, The Mandalorian season 2 trailer keeps the focus firmly on Mando and Baby Yoda, as well as some of the supporting characters from season 1, such as Gina Carano's Cara Dune and Carl Weathers' Greef Karga. While a trailer may have been expected to tease either of its new arrivals, it does make sense that Ahsoka and Boba are both missing from the footage. Firstly, this means that their appearances can be kept as bigger surprises. Lucasfilm still hasn't officially confirmed either casting yet, and it's fitting that they'd keep the proper reveals for the show itself. Many viewers may not have followed the news, and so getting to see the characters for the first time when it actually happens can, Disney presumably hopes, replicate similar success to the Baby Yoda reveal in season 1.

It's also smart to withhold Ahsoka and Boba Fett for another reason though. While including them would no doubt generate a lot of hype for their respective roles, it would also take some of the focus away from the central characters. This is the first trailer for The Mandalorian season 2, and so it's only right that it is locked-in on those who made season 1 so great, especially Mando and Baby Yoda. By staying on them, it ensures that this still very much feels like The Mandalorian fans loved in the first place. The new trailer isn't completely without new characters, however, as there is a tease of Sasha Banks (the hooded figure Mando briefly sees), who has previously been rumored to be a live-action version of Star Wars Rebels' Sabine Wren.

It's also possible that there may not be as much to tease for Ahsoka Tano or Boba Fett. The very nature of the characters means their roles will be significant, but they're not expected to be main players when it comes to actual screen time, which would make it even more sensible to hold back for when season 2 drops. Of course, it's also a possibility that Disney will release a second trailer nearer the air date, which will give viewers a tease of the characters. But given that Baby Yoda wasn't shown until the first episode, it fits that Ahsoka Tano and Boba Fett won't be in the marketing for The Mandalorian season 2.
