The season 2 synopsis for The Mandalorian reveals that Mando’s mission goes beyond finding Baby Yoda’s species. After a breakout first season on Disney+, the Star Wars universe spinoff series is set to return in October, with promises of bigger and better adventures (and going by the recent first trailer, visualizing those adventures will also put a much bigger dent in Disney’s wallet).

Of course, the most anticipated aspect of season 2 is the return of Baby Yoda, the internet meme phenomenon and mystery character at the heart of the show’s story. As that recently released first Mandalorian trailer made clear, a big part of Mando’s season 2 quest involves him bringing Baby Yoda back to his own species, assuming there are any members of that species still alive somewhere in the galaxy. The Jedi will also figure into the action in some way, with WWE wrestler Sasha Banks apparently playing a member of the legendary warrior sect.

Though the Jedi and the quest to find Baby Yoda’s fellow species members may be central to the action on The Mandalorian going forward, a recently released season 2 synopsis indicates there’s definitely more going on than just that. The synopsis (via ComicBook.com) reads, "The Mandalorian and the Child continue their journey, facing enemies and rallying allies as they make their way through a dangerous galaxy in the tumultuous era after the collapse of the Galactic Empire."

The Mandalorian Season 2 Greef Karga Cara Dune

Obviously, that synopsis is as vague as can be, but the key piece of information would seem to be the bit about Mando and The Child “rallying allies” as they travel around the galaxy. Obviously, their allies Cara Dune and Greef Karga are back from season 1 (alas, they won’t be joined by the deceased IG-11 or Kuiil), but it’s left open to fans to guess what additional friends the group will make as season 2 plays out. Of course, it’s already been revealed that Ahsoka Tano, Boba Fett (or someone wearing his armor) and Bo-Katan Kryze are being plucked from established Star Wars lore and dropped into the action in season 2, but it remains to be seen how these characters will fit in and which ones may end up being allies with Mando and The Child. Fans naturally would love to see Boba Fett team up with Mando to create a bad-ass pair, but of course Boba is not really a Mandalorian and so is not bound by the same code that guides Mando (and frankly who knows if the teased character is really Boba Fett at all).

When it comes to potential allies for Mando and The Child, Ahsoka Tano would obviously be an incredible addition to the crew, but who knows how much that character will even appear as it’s indeed possible she will only receive a small role as Disney+ sets up a new Ahsoka Tano-centered series. Bo-Katan Kryze obviously would be a candidate to join forces with Mando as she was herself a Mandalorian, and the character’s past history would also indicate she will be involved in the Moff Gideon/darksaber storyline. Indeed, there is a rich array of possibilities to be considered as The Mandalorian embarks on season 2, and a lot of reasons for fans to be excited as new characters arrive on the scene. The danger for the show of course is for it to become too interwoven with established lore, taking away some of Jon Favreau and company’s storytelling freedom while introducing canon-related issues that upset the more hardcore fans.
