WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Mandalorian.

With The Mandalorian season 1 now officially wrapped up, its finale sets up season 2 to answer some big Star Wars questions. Created by Jon Favreau, the first live-action series from the space opera takes place five years after the events of The Return of the Jedi and introduces us to lone gunslinger Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal).

The season 1 finale of The Mandalorian titled "Chapter 3: Redemption" was directed by Taika Waititi — who incidentally also voices IG-11. Picking up from last week's penultimate episode, the series continues Din, Cara Dune (Gina Carano) and Greef Karga's (Carl Weathers) face-off with Moff Gideon — a former Imperial governor who ordered the hunt for the Force-sensitive Baby Yoda. In the end, Din destroyed Moff's TIE fighter, and he and the child were able to escape Nevarro, set on a new quest find the mystical Jedi and hand over the Child to its people.

Moff Gideon is last seen cutting his way out of the wreckage with what appears to be the Darksaber. Presumably, he will continue to be the main antagonist of the series. With season 2 already in production, the series' season 1 left some big questions waiting to be answered when it returns next fall.

What Happened To The Darksaber?

The Mandalorian Moff Gideon Darksaber

Just when everybody thought that Moff Gideon is finished after his TIE fighter crashed, the former Imperial governor cut himself out of the wreckage using the Darksaber — an ancient weapon that is very important to the people of Mandalore because it was the weapon of the first-ever Mandalorian Jedi, Tarre Vizla. The weapon debuted in Star Wars: The Clone Wars with a subsequent appearance in Star Wars Rebelswhere it was handed to Bo Katan Kryze by Ghost Crew member Sabine Wren. Since then, the Darksaber hasn't factored in any Star Wars stories except for a subtle Easter egg in Rogue One: A Star Wars Storywhich revealed that the evil organization had a file on it titled "Black Saber."

That's why fans were very surprised to learn that someone like Gideon has the Darksaber in his possession. This could mean more proper Mandalorian lore intertwined in Din's story in The Mandalorian season 2 since it's clear that Gideon will be more of a presence as he presumably goes after Mando and Baby Yoda.

What Is Yoda's Species?

Baby Yoda in The Mandalorian Chapter 6

Since introducing Baby Yoda at the end of "Chapter 1," viewers have been looking forward to learning more about the child. Although the character has been a pivotal element of the show, The Mandalorian season 1 revealed very little about the adorable infant other than its basic requirements to live. Aside from being Force-sensitive, there's basically nothing much known about it. Prior to its debut, there were only two other depictions of the species in the universe, Yoda and Yaddle, perhaps due to Star Wars creator George Lucas' insistence on keeping them as enigmatic as possible. However, that will presumably change because Mando's new mission is to reunite him with his species.

It remains to be seen if this mystery will be resolved in The Mandalorian season 2. Depending on how Favreau plans the entirety of the show, it might be a detail saved for the last few seasons of the series. Nevertheless, it's safe to say that viewers will learn more about Baby Yoda and its race when the series returns for their second year.
