The Mandalorian season 2 could see Sabine Wren return and reclaim the Darksaber. As the first live-action Star Wars TV series, The Mandalorian managed to blend several different eras of the galaxy far, far away together. Series creator Jon Favreau brought the tone and style of the original trilogy, while Dave Filoni helped integrate the expansive Star Wars mythology. Whether it was including The Child (aka Baby Yoda) or the appearance of the DarksaberThe Mandalorian had something for everyone.

The latter inclusion of the Darksaber at the end of The Mandalorian season 1 was something that surprised many viewers. The ancient saber formed by the first Mandalorian Jedi has a long history in animated Star Wars projects and is traditionally a sign of who is the leader of Mandalore. It appeared in multiple episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, but The Mandalorian marked its live-action debut. Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) emerged from his crashed fighter with the weapon, sparking plenty of speculation about how he got it. Based on Esposito's teases for The Mandalorian season 2, it sounds like the Darksaber will play a much bigger role in the next batch of episodes.

Due to the secrecy surrounding official details on season 2 of The Mandalorian, the exact role that the Darksaber will play isn't known. Neither the weapon nor Gideon was featured in the first trailer for The Mandalorian season 2. However, there have been plenty of rumors and potential leaks about where The Mandalorian is going and who might appear. If some of them pan out, then the reclamation of the Darksaber could play a key role in season 2.

Sabine Wren Is Rumored To Appear In The Mandalorian Season 2

The Mandalorian seaosn 2 is rumored to include Star Wars: Rebels' Sabine Wren. There have already been believable reports that the new season will feature Ahsoka Tano's live-action debut, played by Rosario Dawson. Sabine was last seen at the end of Rebels going off on a mission with Ahsoka, so there has been immense speculation that Sabine's return will be linked to Ahsoka's arrival. Disney and Lucasfilm have not confirmed that Sabine will be in season 2 of The Mandalorian, but they might have already shown her.

The trailer for season 2 featured the confirmation that WWE star Sasha Banks will appear. She was briefly seen in the trailer, and even though the dark cloak concealed most of her appearance, Banks has been tied to Sabine rumors periodically. Banks looks the part, especially with her colorful hair matching Sabine's multiple looks, and is the right age for how old Sabine would be during the time when The Mandalorian is set.

Sabine's History With The Darksaber In Star Wars Rebels

Star Wars Rebels Sabine Darksaber-1

After the Darksaber's debut in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Sabine was tied to its re-emergence in Star Wars: Rebels. She gains possession of it after she, Ezra Bridger, and Kanan Jarrus defeat Maul. However, Sabine is initially not interested in keeping the Darksaber and taking on the responsibility that it holds. As the weapon that is meant for the leader of Mandalore, Sabine is not eager to take on such a role, especially since she fled Mandalore as a kid to escape the Empire and hasn't seen her family since. She eventually comes to terms with this responsibility and trains with Kanan to become a proficient fighter with the Darksaber.

Sabine's return to Mandalore and reunion with Clan Wren didn't start off well, but it ultimately ended with her defeating Mandalore's current leader Gar Saxon and regaining the respect of her family. She then decided to stay with her family on Krownest as the death of Saxon allowed them to try and unite Mandalore. At this time, Sabine was technically the rightful ruler of Mandalore after defeating Saxon, but she didn't think she was ready to lead. She instead vowed to find the right person to lead Mandalore, with Bo-Katan Kryze (who is also rumored to appear in The Mandalorian season 2) given the Darksaber and chosen to rule.

How Sabine Could Get The Darksaber In Mandalorian Season 2

Moff Gideon emerges from his crashed TIE fighter with the darksaber in The Mandalorian

If Sabine is going to reclaim the Darksaber in The Mandalorian season 2, it is difficult to imagine this happening without crossing paths with Moff Gideon. Esposito has teased that the Darksaber is important to Gideon's past, and that could be tied to how he came to possess it. Assuming Gideon is not a Mandalorian and claimed the weapon during combat with its previous owner (presumably Bo-Katan), he could even potentially be the technical leader of Mandalore. This would surely get the attention of Sabine after she spent her time finding the right person for the job.

To take the Darksaber back, Sabine will have to defeat Gideon. Even though he could be around beyond season 2, Gideon will have to be defeated at some point. This will need to include losing the Darksaber. As long as Favreau and Filoni don't plan on using The Mandalorian to destroy the ancient weapon, then it makes sense for a Mandalorian to take it back. Din Djarin isn't technically a Mandalorian, but he could still make a claim for it after living by their code and defeating Gideon. Din using the Darksaber would be a cool decision but not as impactful as Sabine reclaiming it.

Sabine Wren Reclaiming The Darksaber Can Complete Her Star Wars Story

Should Sabine reclaim the Darksaber, The Mandalorian could complete her story. The entire reason that Sabine left Mandalore and joined the Rebellion was to try and save her people. She wasn't running away after creating weapons for the Empire but rather doing what she could to actively fight against them so Mandalore could be free from its control one day. Since Gideon's possession of the Darksaber seemingly reveals Mandalore had some rough days after Sabine gave it to Bo-Katan, her ability to reclaim it and defeat someone who might have been responsible for more Mandalore oppression is an ideal way for her story to evolve.

Sabine also deserves a chance to become the ruler of Mandalore. She was the rightful ruler several years ago after defeating Saxon, but she also understood that Bo-Katan had a rightful claim as the sister to Mandalore's former ruler Satine. After already giving up the Darksaber once before, Sabine would be a few years older, wiser, and more fit to rule during The Mandalorian season 2. Although fans might like to see Din get to use the Darksaber, the idea of him using it to rule Mandalore doesn't fit with his character or the show's story so far. His adventures will presumably continue to revolve around him and Baby Yoda, so Sabine becomes an even more natural choice to take the Darksaber in the end. And for all audiences know, this could even set up the next chapter of Sabine's story instead of concluding it.
