The Mandalorian season 2, episode 4, "Chapter 12: The Siege" features an Easter egg that nods to Rey's hairstyle in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Disney+'s live-action Star Wars series continues its second year with "The Siege", where Din Djarin and Baby Yoda reunited with Greef Karga and Cara Dune. But while the events of The Mandalorian take place decades before the sequel trilogy, the show included a sneaky reference to the adopted Skywalker daughter.
After their big encounter with Bo-Katan Kryze and her team on Trask, Mando and Baby Yoda were supposed to go directly to Corvus to seek out the Jedi that is Ahsoka Tano. But, the Razor Crest was so beat-up - and the Mon Calamari didn't do a great job fixing it - that they were forced to make a pit stop on Nevarro to have the ship properly repaired. While Greef's people took care of the craft, Mando was roped into a side-mission to help his old friends, while Baby Yoda was left in a newly-converted school on the planet for a class seat-in.
Surprisingly, Baby Yoda quickly settled in on his own desk. The Teacher Droid didn't seem to have any issues that a random child entered and joined the class, but for a brief period, the children, who were mainly human beings, were curious about the Child. During the quick pan of the camera, there's a girl sitting a row behind where Baby Yoda ended up sitting who was sporting the three-bun updo that Rey was sporting in The Rise of Skywalker. She seemed to be more enamored with the infant than most of her classmates as she even leaned to get a better look at the tiny creature.
Rey had the same hairstyle when she debuted in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and it quickly became one of the most recognizable hairstyles in the franchise. It continued the tradition of debuting memorable dos from previous trilogies including Princess Leia's hair buns from the original Star Wars movie, followed by Padmé Amidala's elaborate styles from the prequels. Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi gave Rey a different hairstyle with a half-up/half-down look, but J.J. Abrams brought back her original do when he returned to close out the sequel trilogy in The Rise of Skywalker. Despite the similarities in hairstyle and even facial features, Baby Yoda's one-time classmate in The Mandalorian is not Rey. Based on the Star Wars timeline, Din and the Child's adventures take place around 9 ABY, while Rey wasn't born until 15 ABY.
While Rey is not in The Mandalorian, the events of the show might eventually connect to her story in the sequels that ended in the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. As revealed in the latest episode, Moff Gideon is after Baby Yoda they harvest for midichlorians for cloning purposes. Depending on how creator Jon Favreau, the ongoing process could explain Snoke's appearance and Emperor Palpatine's return.
