The Mandalorian season 2 will reportedly feature the appearance of established Star Wars characters from the original trilogy. Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian has been a big hit on the Disney+ streaming service, as it has garnered both critical acclaim and audience appreciation. Not to mention the shows monstrous presence on social media thanks to the surprise character reveal at the end of episode one, The Child, or Baby Yoda for all the people on the internet. Set after 1983’s Return of the Jedi, and long before Force Awakens, the series tells the story of The Mandalorian, a bounty hunter who acquires The Child for an assignment, but then decides to protect it.

Despite being set in the Star Wars universe, the show has focused on a great deal of new, engaging characters such as Pedro Pascal’s The Mandalorian, Carl Weathers Greef Karga, Werner Herzog’s mysterious Client, and Gina Carano’s Cara. Even with the absence of lightsabers, there are constant reminders of the fact that this is a Star Wars project as we see familiar faces such as Jawas, Kowakian monkey-lizards, and Stormtroopers in dirty armor, representing the fall of the Empire. However, with The Mandalorian season 2 coming in the fall of 2020, fans may be seeing some more familiar faces in the next season of Favreau’s show.

According to Deadline"insiders" are hinting that fans could see "several established characters" from the Skywalker saga films in The Mandalorian season 2. Obviously, given how secretive Star Wars productions are, there was no other information beyond that. The identities of the characters remain unknown, and will undoubtedly be subject to much speculation.

Given The Mandalorian's place in the Star Wars timeline (season 1 takes place five years after Return of the Jedi), the safest bet would be on original trilogy characters appearing. As for who that might be, it wouldn't be out of the question to expect some well-known bounty hunters from The Empire Strikes Back to show up. Some fans even thought The Mandalorian season 1 was hinting at Boba Fett's return, so it would be fun if season 2 delivered on that payoff. Fans may not know which legacy characters Favreau and crew have in mind for a while though, since the creative team likes to keep things close to the chest (see: Baby Yoda).

One of the things that have made The Mandalorian so fresh and entertaining is the distance it has from some of the Star Wars films, especially the latest trilogy. Of course, it has its connections, but the string of new characters and the western-style approach have been refreshing and incredibly fun. It has also kept that air of mystery surrounding its story and characters, leading to endless theories and debates. It would by no means hurt the series to see original characters appear in the second season, and there would be some intrigue to see how they fit into the show's story. Although, overloading The Mandalorian with original characters may not be a good idea as it could potentially take away from what has made the show so great.
