The Mandalorian season 2 gets the Honest Trailers treatment. After arriving with a massive bang in 2019, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni’s Disney+ Star Wars show returned for season 2 just in time to save 2020. And somehow The Mandalorian season 2 turned out to be even more shocking and buzzworthy than the memorable first season.

The most buzzworthy aspect of The Mandalorian has of course always been the meme-ready Baby Yoda, whose backstory was finally revealed in season 2 along with his real name. Season 2 also saw the arrival of some major Star Wars animated characters to the live action side of the universe, including Ahsoka Tano and Bo-Katan. The Mandalorian season 2 also wowed Star Wars fans with the expected return of Boba Fett and the completely unexpected arrival of Luke Skywalker, who showed up in the closing moments of the season 2 finale to assure everyone would be talking about the episode for weeks to come.

With The Mandalorian season 2 now finished running and its many spoilers no longer needing to be hidden, Screen Junkies’ ever-hilarious Honest Trailers series has turned its snarky lens on the Disney+ show's second season and the Star Wars universe in general. See the clip in the space below:

As has already been pointed out by many a critic, The Mandalorian does indeed lean heavily on a few trusted storytelling devices, and tends to feel a bit repetitive as a result. But that repetition really comes to light in a video like the above, as the show is called out for basically doing the same scenes over and over again with slight variations. The show’s over-reliance on convenient computer maps is funny enough, but perhaps most hilarious of all is its overuse of the “dumb Stormtrooper” trope in creating action scenes that basically turn into slapstick massacres as legions of clueless imperial soldiers are mowed down by the show’s heroes. The video also has a lot of fun pointing out how dark Baby Yoda became in season 2 as he indulged in all sorts of questionable behavior, including murdering Frog Lady’s babies by eating her eggs. In addition, the video makes reference to the controversy surrounding Cara Dune actress Gina Carano, who was called out by some Star Wars fans for airing her political views on social media.

Overall the video is relatively kind to The Mandalorian season 2, as it credits the show with being the best Star Wars material on TV since the opening credits of the old animated Star Wars: Droids show. Of course, the video also points out that because The Mandalorian is such a huge hit, Disney will probably now create too many spinoffs and completely ruin Star Wars again. For now though, The Mandalorian feels like a true gift to fans who felt burned by the sequel trilogy, as season 2 was undoubtedly a success in spite of certain glaring issues.
