The Mandalorian, season 2, episode 4 will be directed by Carl Weathers. The hit live-action Star Wars series currently streaming on Disney+ has been widely praised by both fans and critics alike. Starring Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) as the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin, aka “Mando,” and based roughly 5 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, The Mandalorian chronicles the struggle of said bounty hunter in the safeguarding of a mysterious child from the clutches of the Empire.

Now in The Mandalorian’s season 2, the titular character is set to reunite with allies from season 1, including Greef Karga, played by Carl Weathers (Rocky). Karga runs the Bounty Hunters’ Guild, which employs Mando on the planet Nevarro. Originally billed for just a few appearances on The Mandalorian, creator Jon Favreau and the writers loved the character so much that they further expanded Karga’s presence on the show. The last time viewers saw him was during the season 1 finale, which found Karga aiding Mando in protecting “the Child” and repelling Empire forces from Nevarro.

During a recent interview with ET Canada, posted to their YouTube channel, Weathers reveals that in addition to returning as Karga for The Mandalorian season 2, he will be directing that season’s fourth episode. Weathers also expressed surprise and appreciation over the extent to which fans have embraced not only the show but his character.

Well of course the episode I directed is the thing I'm most excited about them seeing. The episode I directed is, well in our schedule, was episode 4.

Gina Carano as Cara Dune and Carl Weathers as Greef Karga in Mandalorian

No stranger to the director’s chair, Weathers counts episodes of Strong Medicine and Hawaii Five-0 among just some of his directorial television credits. Granting him the capacity to continue in that regard for future episodes of The Mandalorian is part of what originally enticed Weathers towards accepting the role of Karga. To that end, he will be joining the company of Academy Award-winning writer/ director Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit), who directed The Mandalorian season 1's finale and also guest-starred last season as the voice of bounty hunter turned nurse droid, IG-11.

Weathers claims in the interview that although he does get recognized and called out as “Greef Karga,” the character still has a ways to go before it surpasses the level to which he is still recognized for his most famous role of Apollo Creed. However, taking relatively supporting characters and making them iconic is one thing Weathers does best. Whether it was as Chubbs in Happy Gilmore or Dillon in Predator, many of Weathers’s appearances have gone on to become some of the most memorable and synonymous with the feature. If history is then any indicator, whether it’s behind the camera or in front, Weathers is guaranteed to leave an unforgettable mark on The Mandalorian.
