Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Mandalorian season 2, episode 2, "The Passenger."

Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) crash-landed on an ice planet in The Mandalorian season 2, episode 2, "Chapter 10: The Passenger," but it was actually a location that the bounty hunter was already familiar with. The snow-covered planet was initially teased in the trailer footage for the second season of the Star Wars series. While some viewers believed Din and the Child would be visiting a brand new planet never before seen in the fictional universe, it turned out to be Maldo Kreis.

Upon returning to Mos Pelgo, Din made a deal to transport a passenger to the planet of Trask in exchange for new intel regarding Mandalorians. He agreed to take the "Frog Lady" and her unfertilized eggs to her husband, who happened to know about other members of Din's creed in existence. On their travels, two New Republic X-wing pilots questioned Din's intentions, forcing him to flee to a nearby planet. Din tried to maneuver the Razor Crest through the frozen canyons to shake off the X-wing pilots, but his ship ended up falling through the ice, leaving the group stranded.

Prior to the release of the episode, Star Wars fans theorized that the icy planet would be Ilum, a planet once occupied by the Galactic Empire. Following the fall of the Empire, the First Order used the planet's massive trench to build their Starkiller Base superweapon. Ilum was also greatly connected to the Jedi Order, due to the planet's abundance of kyber crystals, insinuating that Din may want to travel to the location to investigate Baby Yoda's origins. Instead, a small detail indicates that the episode took place on Maldo Kreis. The episode revealed the Razor Crest's onboard computer screen in Aurebesh text, and when translated (via Reddit), Maldo Kreis was given as the location. The icy planet might not have looked familiar, but it was the planet that Din traveled to in The Mandalorian's very first episode.

Din Captured A Fugitive On Maldo Kreis In The Mandalorian Season 1

Featured The Mandalorian Season 2 Will Have Mythrol

When viewers first met Din in The Mandalorian season 1, the bounty hunter was searching for an unnamed Mythrol in a bar on Maldo Kreis. After a brief scuffle, Din captured the man before taking him back to the Razor Crest. Despite the Mythrol's pleas for freedom, Din froze him in carbonite and delivered him to the Guild on Nevarro in order to collect his bounty. While the planet's first appearance presented Maldo Kreis as frozen flat tundra, "The Passenger" proved that the location also has areas of icy canyons. Din's familiarity with Maldo Kreis may have been the reason why he targeted the area to attempt an escape from the New Republic patrollers.

It's likely that Din won't want to return to Maldo Kreis any time soon, considering the dangers that lurk within the planet. First, he and his captive were attacked by a Ravinak, revealing that the giant beasts reside within the ice-covered waters. Then Din, the Child, and the Frog Lady were ambushed by cave-dwelling ice spiders, some of which were as big as the Razor Crest. Maldo Kreis might not have connections to the Empire or First Order like the case with Ilum, but The Mandalorian already proved that it's certainly not a fun place to visit.
