New fan art puts the legendary Darksaber in the hands of The Mandalorian in a piece of season 2 wish fulfillment, and it's as epic as you'd expect. The fabled weapon first appeared in The Clone Wars, wielded by Pre Viszla, a rebel Mandalorian who led the Death Watch during the dying days of the Galactic Empire. Following this, Darth Maul took control of the weapon after killing Viszla. However, the Darksaber then turned up in the hands of Moff Gideon in the episode 1 finale of The Mandalorian, simultaneously shocking and exciting fans.

Little has been revealed about how the Darksaber came to be with Moff Gideon, though Giancarlo Esposito, who portrays the villain, has said that it connects to Gideon's past. Either way, fans are eagerly anticipating what might happen to the blade in season 2, which will be released on Disney+ later this month, and whether it connects to Ahsoka, who appeared in The Clone Wars and will be played by Rosario Dawson in The Mandalorian season 2. There is speculation that Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), the titular Mandalorian of the series, will battle Gideon and control the Darksaber during season 2.

Now, digital artist Mizuri has taken that speculation to the next level, creating a piece of fan art that puts the Darksaber in the hands of The Mandalorian. The atmospheric art is epic, and Mizuri bathes the images in muted black and grey tones with dark blue hints. A second image recreates the Darksaber itself, adding intricate details to the blade itself. You can see the fan art below:

The unique weapon, which even looks intimidating without the added CGI, looks at home in the hands of The Mandalorian, and fans will be hoping that this alternate reality is realized during season 2. Most audiences will be happy to find out how Moff Gideon acquired it, and just what his backstory is. Though, of course, there is the potential for the Darksaber to come into play later on in season 2, with the trailer hinting that The Mandalorian is building up to a climactic confrontation between Mando and Gideon.

The Darksaber isn't the only mystery in The Mandalorian season 2, with the presence of Ahsoka and other new characters teasing that the show is going to begin tying into the wider Star Wars universe more closely with its new batch of episodes. Hopefully, showrunner Jon Favreau can do so without taking the focus away from Mando. Season 1 was successful because of its tight focus on the character, and season 2 will need to do the same if it wants to live up to fan expectations.
