This article contains spoilers for The Mandalorian season 3, episode 2.Considering how much time has passed since the Clone Wars, there's understandably some confusion over how old Bo-Katan Kryze really is in The Mandalorian. Bo-Katan is one of three known members of Clan Kryze - the other two being her sister Satine, the former Duchess of Mandalore, and their nephew, Korkie Kryze, who sadly seems to have died by the end of the Dark Times of the Empire's reign. Bo-Katan believes she's the last of her line.

Bo-Katan made her live-action debut in The Mandalorian season 2, played by Katee Sackhoff. She was initially focused on recovering the Darksaber, hoping to use it to secure her claim as ruler of Mandalore. Unfortunately, although Bo-Katan is better at using the Darksaber than Din Djarin, he is the one who earned it through right of combat. Bo-Katan has lived a long life; she saw the Republic fall, and she outlived the Empire. But now she must learn to live with a new status quo.

Katee Sackhoff Has Guessed At Bo-Katan's Age In The Mandalorian

Katee Sackhoff voiced Bo-Katan Kryze in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, and she's now playing the character in live-action as well. Although Sackhoff herself is 42, she believes Bo-Katan is a little older; speaking at a round-table event in 2023, she suggested Bo-Katan is probably in her late 40s or early 50s (via The Fangirl Blog). But this can't possibly be accurate, because comments made by Bo-Katan in The Mandalorian season 3 directly contradict it. Bo-Katan discussed the history of House Kryze, and remembered reciting the Mandalorian Creed before her father, Duke Adonai Kryze. This detail allows viewers to figure out roughly when Bo-Katan was born.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Offers Important Clues To Bo-Katan's Age

Bo-Katan In The Mandalorian Season 3

Duke Adonai Kryze was assassinated sometime before the events of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, prompting the Jedi Council to send Master Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi to keep his successor, Bo-Katan's sister Satine, safe. Although no precise date has been offered, tie-in novels have strongly suggested this mission took place around 40 years before the Battle of Yavin, when Obi-Wan was roughly 19 years of age - and so was Satine. Dialogue in Star Wars: The Clone Wars suggested there was only a small age gap between Satine and her sister, Bo-Katan. This would place Bo-Katan in her late 50s or even early 60s by the time of The Mandalorian season 3.

Star Wars has never confirmed the age at which a Mandalorian swears to live by the Creed, but The Mandalorian season 3, episode 2 showed them must be old enough to remember it. Given Star Wars has modeled the Mandalorians on Jewish diaspora culture, it's likely the Creed is sworn to at age 13, corresponding with the Jewish Bat Mitzvah. If this is the case, Bo-Katan was already in her mid-to-late 50s when the Galactic Civil War began in the first Star Wars film.

None of this conclusively proves Bo-Katan's age, nor does it provide a concrete date of birth. It does, however, mean Sackhoff's best guess is probably over a decade out - simply because she hadn't factored in some nuances in the complicated Star Wars timeline. Regardless of Bo-Katan's age, though, she's still undeniably a force to be reckoned with in The Mandalorian, and she will continue to be so for quite some time. It will be exciting to see how her journey continues.
