Din Djarin's ship, the Razor Crest, was destroyed in The Mandalorian season 2, episode 6, "Chapter 14: The Tragedy," and the timing couldn't be worse for Star Wars fans. Across The Mandalorian's run, the Razor Crest has been Din's trusty vessel. It's been badly beat up and needed a lot of repairs, spluttering its way around the galaxy an almost comical amount, but the Empire's destruction of it lends even greater meaning to the title "The Tragedy," an episode that also sees Baby Yoda captured by Moff Gideon's Dark Troopers.

It's a double blow for Mando, and while losing Grogu is obviously the bigger of the two, The Mandalorian also takes a pause to highlight just how much the destruction of the Razor Crest means to him. It'd served as not only his mode of transport, but his home, and had helped him get out of countless scrapes and collect several bounties, so it's going to be hard for him to replace. Exactly how Star Wars does that remains to be seen, but Din's not the only one who may feel the loss of the gunship.

The timing of the Razor Crest's destruction comes just in time for Christmas, when there is a noticeably big push in terms of merchandise for the ship. Most notably, this includes Hasbro's crowd-funded Razor Crest model, which is the latest in their HasLab series (which previously produced a Jabba's Sail Barge model). 10.5 inches tall, 20" wide, and 30" long, the HasLab Razor Crest is incredibly detailed, and comes at a whopping $350 to purchase. Alongside this, LEGO is also making its own Razor Crest push in 2020; its version, which has over 1,000 pieces, comes in at $129.99. On top of all this, Fortnite has also launched its own The Mandalorian challenge, which involves finding the Razor Crest. The Razor Crest is the big thing for Star Wars fans this Christmas, and The Mandalorian just blew it up.

Razor Crest Destroyed in The Mandalorian

There's a real sense of irony in the timing of this, though Disney would have known it was coming. While the toy deals have likely been in the works for a long time, so too has The Mandalorian season 2 been mapped out in advance. The show arrived a little too late to fully capitalize on the festive merchandise opportunities in 2019, and so this was always going to see. A big push for them regardless of what was happening in terms of story, it's just humorous that the corporate synergy sees it arrive when the Razor Crest is destroyed.

While fans who have ordered the merch - especially if they've crowdfunded the $350 HasLab project - might be somewhat disappointed to see the Razor Crest meet its end in The Mandalorian season 2, it shouldn't hurt the ships long-term potential. After all, the Death Star was blown-up at the end of Star Wars, and has been one of its most popular pieces of iconography in terms of merchandise for over 40 years. Whether the Razor Crest has that kind of staying power remains to be seen, but the ship should still do just fine for a while yet, and it also means Disney can find a new vehicle to package and sell in 2021.
