One of the many Easter eggs in The Mandalorian season 2, episode 5, "The Jedi" is to James Cameron's Aliens. A sequel to Ridley Scott's original Alien film, Cameron's Aliens saw Sigourney Weaver's Ripley return to the moon LV-426 (Acheron) along with a group of Colonial Marines aboard the ship Sulaco, decades after the Nostromo visited the site. One of those Marines happened to be Corporal Dwayne Hicks, who was played by Michael Biehn, who had previously worked with Cameron on the original Terminator.

Even though Biehn has appeared in several movies and TV shows over the years, including other big projects like The Rock, he will always be remembered for playing Kyle Reese in Terminator and Cpl. Hicks in Aliens. So it's understandable that some of his new roles, such as the one in The Mandalorian season 2, incorporates pieces of his past with James Cameron into his new characters - and that's certainly true with Lang, who was Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth's lieutenant on Corvus.

Towards the end of "The Jedi", Ahsoka Tano leads the magistrate's guards, including Lang, away from the prisoners so Mando can swoop in and save them. While the scout guards are all outfitted with A350 blaster rifles, Lang carries a shotgun. On the surface, it may seem like an insignificant detail, but shotguns are actually quite rare in Star Wars. The clone army used them, and so did some mercenaries, but in this particular case, it's undoubtedly a reference to Hicks' iconic shotgun - an Ithaca Model 37 he used because it was a family heirloom.

Michael Biehn as Lang in The Mandalorian

Lang's shotgun in The Mandalorian even looks the same as an Ithaca Model 37, except it's an energy-type weapon rather than a standard projectile shotgun. What's funny is that, in the episode, Lang failed to capitalize on Hicks' famous quote, "I like to keep this handy... for close encounters." As he and Mando were waiting for Ahsoka and Elsbeth's duel to finish to see who would win, he kept moving closer to Din Djarin. Lang could've taken the opportunity to shoot at Mando at close range (if the blast didn't kill Mando, Lang might've wounded him enough), but he decided to put down the shotgun and attempt a quick maneuver with his blaster pistol instead. Unfortunately for him, Mando was too quick for his antics.

It's worth noting that Biehn also used a Model 37 shotgun throughout The Terminator, but his usage of the weapon was emphasized more in Aliens, enough for it to be a reference to the latter film rather than the former. Perhaps it will show up again in The Mandalorian even though Lang is dead. It must've been mass manufactured by one of the many weapons companies in the Star Wars galaxy. But overall, it's a subtle reference to Aliens that would be exciting for any fan of the movie. After all, just because The Mandalorian is Star Wars, that doesn't mean all the Easter eggs have to be related to George Lucas' world.
