Who plays Kuiil in The Mandalorian on Disney+? In season 1, the Ugnaught character offered wisdom and guidance to various characters. Because of Kuiil’s fatherly ways, many viewers are curious about the man behind the costume. Kuiil appears in three episodes of The Mandalorian season 1

In “Chapter One,” Din Djarin (aka The Mandalorian) tracks down his target, Baby Yoda (“The Child”), to Arvala-7 where he first met the farmer Kuiil. The Ugnaught farmer taught Mando how to ride a blurgg, and offered the Mandalorian advice, spoken declaratively, based on years of working as a valued servant in the Galactic Empire. During “Chapter Two: The Child,” Kuiil once again helped Mando by arranging a trade meeting with the Jawas, the best way to gain the necessary parts to repair the titular character's ship, Razor Crest. After Mando obtained a mudhorn egg and traded with the Jawas, he returned to Kuiil and offered the farmer a spot on board his ship. Kuiil, however, declined, preferring to continue his quiet life on Arvala-7.

Kuill returned in The Mandalorian season 1 episode 7, “Chapter 7: The Reckoning.” When Din Djarin and Cara Dune arrived on Arvala-7, they’re surprised to learn the farmer had completely re-built IG-11. Kuill refused to babysit little Baby Yoda, but does assign his reprogrammed droid to look after the 50-year-old child. Once again, the farmer proved to be a valuable ally: he's a character who had been around the block a few times and valued both honor and craftsmanship.

Who Voices Kuill

American actor Nick Nolte voiced Kuiil in The Mandalorian. In pop culture, he’s best known as Eddie Murphy’s co-star from the early ‘80s classic 48 Hrs., and for his Oscar-nominated performances in the ‘90s films The Prince of Tides and Affliction. With his ruggedly-handsome looks and growly voice, Nolte has portrayed a multitude of overtly-masculine characters over the years, but has also shown a softer side as well. In Warrior, a 2011 sports drama directed by Gavin O’Connor, Nolte displays his versatility as a religious father named Paddy Conlon, and ultimately earned yet another Oscar nod. On television, Nolte most recently starred as the title character in Epix’s short-lived series Graves. In November 2018, Nolte was officially cast as The Mandalorian’s Kuiil.

Nolte shares many characteristics with Kuill. Nolte's managed to sustain a working career in Hollywood for almost 50 years, despite a few setbacks along the way, including a highly-publicized 2002 arrest and shocking celebrity mugshot. Sadly, Kuill was killed by scout troopers while protecting Baby Yoda, so he won’t be back for The Mandalorian season 2. The character’s arc during season 1 is indeed heroic, and he is bound to be remembered by fans as one of the season's best characters. When Baby Yoda grows older, the legend of Kuill will grow stronger.
