The Mandalorian's season 2 premiere saw Din Djarin go up against a legendary krayt dragon - but why couldn't its venom melt his armor? Krayt dragons have been a part of Star Wars lore since all the way back in 1977 when Obi-Wan Kenobi imitated a krayt dragon to scare off a group of Tuskens in the very first Star Wars movie. Until now, though, the closest viewers had come to seeing them was a skeleton in the Tatooine desert.

The season 2 premiere of The Mandalorian saw Din Djarin and Baby Yoda return to Tatooine, a world that's declined since the death of Jabba the Hutt and the fall of the Empire. Mando soon found himself drafted to deal with a greater krayt dragon, a monstrous behemoth that had made its home in an abandoned sarlacc pit and was terrorizing one remote area of the desert planet. It was immediately clear why the Tusken Raiders would flee from the call of a krayt dragon; the beast was huge, and it could vomit up acidic venom at any who dared challenge it. Curiously, though, this venom proved unable to melt Mando's beskar armor.

The venom may be a potent weapon, but it actually serves an important purpose in helping a krayt dragon digest its food; thus it sprays venom upon anything it intends to eat, essentially softening it up. Note the krayt is a carnivore, and it clearly does not consume metal; in fact, even when it raided the town of Mos Pelgo it ignored movement inside metal buildings in favor of a bantha that was out in the open. It's reasonable to assume the krayt cannot digest metal, and indeed its acid may well only affect organic matter. Supporting this theory, the Tusken Raiders who fell to its acid were instantly affected on skin contact, but their clothes didn't appear to dissolve at all.

Meanwhile, it's also possible the Mandalorian's beskar armor is unusually resistant to acid. Beskar is a unique metal, an alloy that affords Mandalorians a high degree of protection even against blaster bolts. There's no evidence it rusts or corrodes, which may well mean precious few acids are able to chemically react with it. Thus, as powerful as the krayt dragon may be, its most potent weapon could actually be completely useless against a Mandalorian. The formidable creature may well have found Din Djarin completely indigestible.

In the end, Mando chose to take drastic action to deal with the krayt dragon. He literally dove into the beast's maw, carrying with him enough explosives to destroy the creature from the inside. Incredibly, Din Djarin's beskar armor protected him even from that explosion, demonstrating just how strong it really is. Even a krayt dragon would be wiser not to mess with the star of The Mandalorian.
