Given everything that happened in The Mandalorian season 1 and where the show is going in season 2, there's a possibility that Baby Yoda (who's officially known as The Child) will become the second Mandalorian Jedi in the Star Wars franchise. Lucasfilm and Disney's first-ever live-action Star Wars TV show has been an astounding success, thanks in large part to the inclusion and popularity of Baby Yoda - a colloquial name adopted by viewers due to the fact that little to nothing is known about the character or its species.

Since Baby Yoda is a member of Yoda's species - though it's been confirmed that he's not a descendant of Yoda himself - and is Force-sensitive, uncovering the truth of who and what he is has been at the forefront of The Mandalorian's story. However, in addition to learning a tiny bit more about Baby Yoda, The Mandalorian has also dived into the history and culture of the Mandalorians. This includes what happened to Mandalore, the rules behind why they don't remove their helmets, and their history with the Jedi.

At one point, the Armorer tells Din Djarin that the Mandalorians once fought the Jedi in an ancient war, which reaffirmed that the Mandalorian vs Jedi War is canon. But the thing is, before the Mandalorians took on the Jedi Order all those thousands of years ago, one of their kind had actually become a Jedi. And with Mando's new mission of either finding Baby Yoda's species or training him to become a Mandalorian, it's possible Baby Yoda could become the second Mandalorian Jedi.

The Original Mandalorian Jedi In Star Wars Canon

A statue of Tarre Vizsla on Mandalore

Quite a few Mandalorian stories and details about their way of life were banished to Star Wars Legends after Disney purchased Lucasfilm in 2012. But one thing that remained in canon was Tarre Vizsla. Clone Wars fans may recognize the surname Vizsla from the character Pre Vizsla, who was voiced by The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau and was the leader of the group Death Watch. Clan Vizsla is perhaps the most famous Mandalorian family in Star Wars and arguably the most important too, seeing as their ancestor, Tarre Vizsla, was the first Mandalorian Jedi.

Over a thousand years before the events of the original Star Wars trilogy, during the days of the Old Republic, Tarre Vizsla joined the Jedi Order as a child after being found to be Force-sensitive. Unfortunately, not much is known about his time as a Jedi, but he is known amongst Mandalorians for creating the Darksaber - a unique, black lightsaber that was recently seen in live-action being wielded by Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian season 1 finale. After Tarre Vizsla's death, the Darksaber was kept in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant until Clan Vizsla broke in and stole it.

Then for generations, the Darksaber became a symbol of Vizsla and later Death Watch. It passed through many hands over the years, and now it's in the possession of the Imperial Remnant Moff Gideon, who must have stolen it when he was on the planet Mandalore. After all, that's how he knows who Mando really is. But long before all this happened, the Darksaber was used by Tarre Vizsla as a Jedi. And now that it's in The Mandalorian, it could eventually be taken by Mando.

The Mandalorian Is Really About Baby Yoda

Baby Yoda Mandalorian Chapter 2

Sure, The Mandalorian follows Din Djarin, aka Mando, but really, his story isn't about bounty hunting or rebuilding what the Mandalorians lost after the Seige of Mandalore. Instead, his story is all about protecting Baby Yoda and discovering who he is and where he comes from. The Mandalorian season 1 even began with Mando being given a bounty for Baby Yoda, and it ended with him taking the child into his possession (and later, care). That relationship between the two of them has become the defining aspect of the Disney+ show, and it will continue well into season 2, and possibly beyond.

Based on The Mandalorian season 1 ending, The Mandalorian season 2 will follow Mando as he searches for Baby Yoda's home - yet another mission involving the child in some way, shape, or form. Baby Yoda isn't just along for the ride; Mando was tasked by the Armorer with either returning Baby Yoda to his people or training him to become a Mandalorian. So it stands to reason that, given where the story is going and just how amazingly popular Baby Yoda became throughout season 1, Baby Yoda will be around for the long haul. And so, that leaves the door wide open for Baby Yoda to become the second Mandalorian Jedi.

Baby Yoda Can Become The Second Mandalorian Jedi

Even if The Mandalorian doesn't provide any concrete answers about Baby Yoda's species and who he is, that doesn't mean the unraveling his powers and his connection to the Force won't continue to be a fundamental part of the story. Audiences have already seen just how powerful Baby Yoda is in the Force; he was able to save Mando by stopping the Mudhorn's charge and then cleanly lifting him off the ground. Later, he was able to Force choke Cara Dune, though he perhaps didn't know the consequences of what he was truly doing. But the biggest revelation was how he was able to heal Greef Karga, a Force power that had ties to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

If Mando doesn't return Baby Yoda to his people and ends up training him to become a Mandalorian, Baby Yoda could grow to harness his Force powers and also learn the ways of the Jedi. The ancient Mandalorian vs Jedi War was teased in the season 1 finale, so it's not like they are unaware of the Jedi and their way of life. The Armorer already made the connection between Baby Yoda and the Jedi. So perhaps this is where Mando will turn to in order to understand and help Baby Yoda. In doing so, he may inadvertently create the second Mandalorian Jedi.

And the great thing about this is that Baby Yoda wouldn't need to construct his own lightsaber. As someone who was trained under Death Watch, Mando may have the right to wield the Darksaber. He could ultimately take the Darksaber back from Moff Gideon and pass it down to Baby Yoda to use. Of course, it's unlikely that Baby Yoda would become a full-fledged Jedi like Yoda was, but he could still make it a part of the way there in The Mandalorian.
