Grogu's power has seemingly grown quite a bit in The Mandalorian season 3's new trailer, paying off his Jedi training arc with Luke Skywalker. Having left with the Jedi Knight at the end of The Mandalorian season 2, Grogu became one of Luke's first pupils as seen in The Book of Boba Fettthough Grogu ultimately chose to abandon his training to reunite with Din Djarin by the conclusion of the spin-off series. However, The Mandalorian season 3 is looking to prove that the training Grogu did receive has made him more formidable.

The new Mandalorian season 3 trailer sees Grogu and Din Djarin back together again and traveling the galaxy in Djarin's newly modified N1-Naboo starfighter, which the Mandalorian received during The Book of Boba Fett on Tatooine. Intending to train Grogu in the ways of the Mandalorian, Din is also seeking redemption for his transgressions against his clan, making a pilgrimage to the homeworld of Mandalore in the hope of becoming a true Mandalorian once more. However, it looks as though conflict with other Mandalorians, such as Bo-Katan Kryze, and the surviving Imperial Remnant will keep both Din Djarin and Grogu quite busy on their new adventures.

Grogu's Jedi Training Is Apparent In The Mandalorian Season 3

The final shot of the new Mandalorian season 3 trailer is of Grogu on his own facing an unknown assailant. However, the attacker is thrown backward, thanks to a Force push from Djarin's adopted foundling. This indicates an increase in power for Grogu, supporting the idea that his Jedi training from Luke — while cut short — did have its benefits.

In The Book of Boba Fett, Grogu spent a brief amount of time on the world of Ossus where Luke had begun constructing his future Jedi academy. Skywalker showed Grogu how to attain balance through the Force via meditation while also helping the child remember parts of his training he'd lost following Grogu's trauma from Order 66 at the Jedi Temple. Although Grogu chose to abandon his Jedi training and reunite with Din Djarin, it does seem as though his time with Luke has made him more powerful and capable, as seen at the end of the Mandalorian season 3 trailer.

Mando S3 Needs To Justify Book Of Boba Fett's Grogu Arc

Beyond a Force push, sufficiently paying off Grogu's Book of Boba Fett arc with Luke is going to be crucial. It certainly came as a surprise that the spin-off series featured so many crucial pieces to both Djarin and Grogu's journey outside the actual Mandalorian series, with many viewers going so far as to dub the Boba Fett spin-off "The Mandalorian season 2.5." With that being the case, The Mandalorian will need to address the events of The Book of Boba Fett, especially Grogu's time with Luke.

That being said, the new trailer does feature hints that this will be the case. Thanks to a shot confirming that Grogu will continue to face his past with a new flashback to Order 66, it stands to reason that Grogu will continue his mediation and attempt to center himself within the Force. After all, just because he's no longer training to become an official Jedi in the Star Wars galaxy doesn't mean he can't make use of his inherent ability as a Force-user, especially now that Luke has given him tools to hone said ability.

Why The Mandalorian Needed A Stronger Grogu

Pedro Pascal and Grogu in The Mandalorian season 3 trailer

It makes sense that The Mandalorian has made Grogu more capable of defending himself for this upcoming season, no longer needing to rely on Djarin as much as in previous chapters. It stands to reason that Grogu will now be able to use the Force more easily thanks to his Jedi training (without needing a nap afterward). In this way, Grogu can evolve beyond just being the cute comic relief or the living MacGuffin that Moff Gideon and the Imperial Remnant want and Djarin has to protect and so often save.

Ultimately, Grogu's decision to leave Luke and his Jedi future seems as though it's for the best. His training with Skywalker in The Book of Boba Fett helped make him more formidable while allowing him to eventually reunite with the family he's found in Djarin. However, The Mandalorian season 3 will need to justify that Jedi arc when the new season starts streaming on March 1st.
