Lucasfilm is no longer working with The Mandalorian actress Gina Carano following controversial social media postings. When The Mandalorian launched on Disney+ in late 2019, fans of the galaxy far, far away immediately became obsessed with Jon Favreau's show. It introduced great new characters to the franchise and built on the established lore in fascinating ways. While the connection between Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Baby Yoda has been the heart of the series through two seasons, characters like Gina Carano's Cara Dune were instrumental in filling out the world.

Despite the mostly positive reception to Cara Dune and Carano's performance at first, the former mixed martial artist has been at the center of multiple controversies in recent months. The controversies arose from various posts across Carano's social media accounts. She made transphobic jokes, repeatedly doubted the effectiveness of masks during COVID-19, and shared voter fraud conspiracies following the 2020 presidential election. Carano continued to make controversial posts, including recent ones about Jeffrey Epstein and the Holocaust.

Now, Lucasfilm has announced that Gina Carano will no longer be involved with The Mandalorian or any other Star Wars projects. In a statement shared with the press following Carano trending on social media as Star Wars fans once again asked for her to be removed from the franchise, a Lucasfilm spokesperson confirmed that she is no longer an employee of theirs.

Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.

Cara Dune infiltrates Imperial facilty with Din and the heroes in The Mandalorian

Lucasfilm's decision to no longer work with Carano from The Mandalorian and remove her from plans for any future spinoffs is hardly a surprise at this point. A sizeable part of the fandom has been asking for this to happen over the last several months, and those calls for Carano to lose her job only increased with each controversial post. While others might share Carano's opinions on some subjects, it is clear that Lucasfilm had enough after calling her posts "abhorrent and unacceptable."

This news immediately ends Carano's tenure with The Mandalorian, the Star Wars franchise, and likely Disney as a whole, but it remains to be seen what becomes of the character of Cara Dune now. Lucasfilm's statement didn't touch on what the future holds, but she could be removed from the franchise altogether or recast. Cara Dune was widely expected to be included in the newly announced Rangers of The New Republic prior to Carano's controversies. Now it'll be up to Jon Favreau to determine what to do with Cara Dune. Whether the character sticks around or is replaced, Gina Carano won't return to The Mandalorian or its spinoffs.
