The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal doesn't know how many more seasons of the show there will be. The live-action Star Wars series recently wrapped up its second season with an exciting and emotional finale that felt like both the end of an era and the start of something new. After being by Din Djarin's side since the series premiere, Baby Yoda left with Luke Skywalker to resume his Jedi training, sending him on a different path. Din, who is now the rightful owner of the darksaber, is presumably going to join forces with Bo-Katan and the Nite Owls to try to retake Mandalore.

The Mandalorian season 3 is already in development, and it will shoot after 2021's The Book of Boba Fett spinoff is completed. Lucasfilm isn't planning on stopping there, as Giancarlo Esposito has said The Mandalorian will receive a season 4. Beyond that, however, is a mystery at this point in time. Even Pascal doesn't know what's in store for The Mandalorian down the line.

Speaking with ET while promoting Wonder Woman 1984, Pascal was asked how many more seasons The Mandalorian will go. The actor admitted he does not know, stating it's more about quality than quantity:

"No idea, I have no idea. Because I think that quality is always gonna override quantity. So as long as it's staying at this incredible standard to which it is at, it's more a matter of that than anything else."

This is the best approach for Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and the rest of the Mandalorian creative team to take. It sounds like story will be the driving factor in determining how much longer the show runs, and they'll have the leeway to end it on their terms whenever it feels right. Whether that means The Mandalorian ends after season 4 or not remains to be seen. That will obviously depend on how the narrative progresses over the next few years, including a planned crossover event with spinoff shows Ahsoka and Rangers of the New Republic. The belief is these series are building up to a confrontation with villain Grand Admiral Thrawn, which could be a satisfying endgame.

The Mandalorian has obviously proven to be a massive success for Lucasfilm and Disney+, so there would definitely be interest in keeping it going as long as possible. That being said, the last thing anyone wants is for the show to overstay its welcome and spoil its legacy with lackluster seasons that don't live up to the standard the first two have set. Viewers might be disappointed if The Mandalorian ends after four or five seasons, but that ultimately may be for the best to ensure the show goes out on a high note. Lucasfilm does have plenty of new Star Wars shows for Disney+ on the way, serving up plenty of fresh content for audiences. As great as The Mandalorian is, it doesn't need to go on in perpetuity.
