WWE superstar and former multi-time champion Sasha Banks was rumored to have been cast in season 2 of The Mandalorian for some time. However, the recent release of the trailer for the Disney+ show has confirmed that the wrestler turned actress will be starring alongside the original cast.

This has opened the floor for a discussion over which character, or what sort of character Sasha Banks will actually be playing. Based on Star Wars history, the direction of the show thus far and the type of parts Banks would be great for, there's certain characters she could absolutely be and some that should probably be ruled out at this stage.

Can't Be Playing: Former Stormtrooper

The archetype of a former Stormtrooper learning the error of their ways and looking to make change in the universe has been seen before. The novels have explored characters that were formerly with the Empire such as Sinjir Velus and the films introduced Finn as a lead character.

While The Mandalorian does often put a new spin on some of the tropes of the franchise, Favreau would probably steer clear of this narrative, especially because there are so many Stormtroopers still currently gripping to the remnants of a dead Empire.

Could Be Playing: Mika Grey

Mika Grey in Star Wars Resistance

Star Wars Resistance saw an elderly lady by the name of Mika Grey introduced. Sasha Banks could well suit a younger version of the character, with her acting talent on full display as she looks to create a new, live action iteration of the character.

Grey is a treasure hunter and someone that the Resistance deeply values. It would be intriguing to see her backstory unfold and it would certainly fit in with the show in terms of the point of the timeline that The Mandalorian is set in.

Can't Be Playing: A Bounty Hunter

Aurora Sing and Cad Bane

With so many Bounty Hunters being featured across the Star Wars franchise and the idea of Bounty Hunting at the very core of The Mandalorian TV show, it seems repetitive to have yet another new character also live life to the same code.

At this stage if a Bounty Hunter was to be featured in the series it will more likely be a recognisable character from the era. Banks would be a terrific gun for hire, but that's likely not the path that has been chosen for her.

Could Be Playing: Ahsoka Tano

Ahsoka Tano

As soon as the trailer released fans started to speculate on whether Banks was actually playing the much awaited debut of a live action Ahsoka Tano. Some were quick to point out that based on the image in the trailer and the Rosario Dawson rumor this should be ruled out.

But, Disney have been known to edit footage in trailers before, potentially removing any makeup Banks was wearing for Ahsoka. Furthermore, the Dawson rumors have been just that, suggesting that there is a chance that Sasha Banks could be playing the former apprentice to Anakin Skywalker.

Can't Be Playing: A Saga Relative

The Skywalker Saga is said to be completely over. Other areas of the Expanded Universe are touching upon it still, in terms of the novels and the games, but the new TV shows will want to move away from all of that.

With so many familial relations throughout the Star Wars universe, it's probable that whatever character Sasha Banks has been chosen to portray will not have any link to the famous Jedi, Rebels and villains of the main movies; especially with recent family choices making little sense to some viewers.

Could Be Playing: Sabine Wren

Sabine Wren holds the Darksaber in Star Wars: Rebels.

The most predicted character for Sasha Banks has to be Sabine Wren. It makes sense as a choice on a number of levels. It works in terms of the timeline and with Dave Filoni linked to the project, he may want one of his previous characters brought to live action.

What's more, Banks has all the qualities and talent needed to portray this rebellious and artistic Mandalorian. On top of all of that, Wren is constantly looking at her Mandalorian history so it makes sense for the two characters to crossover at some stage.

Can't Be Playing: A Squadrons Character

Star Wars Squadrons Game

With Star Wars Squadrons releasing soon at a similar period in the timeline it would in theory make sense to have a character cross between the two areas of the franchise. However, it can also cause creative problems and limit the freedom of choice.

What's more, while it would be beneficial on a financial level to have a crossover character, it wouldn't make sense story wise for mainstream audiences who don't want to both play the game and watch the show. It would be a cool addition but Banks probably isn't anyone from the game.

Could Be Playing: An Inquisitor

Star Wars Inquisitor Fallen Order

The Inquisitors are a consistent part of the Star Wars franchise. Their job is to hunt down any remaining Jedi in order to stop a new order rising from the ashes. The Empire may be all but gone, but the Inquisitors may still be fulfilling their duties.

The dark cloak already suggests that Banks could be one of these trained killers. Story wise it would also make sense to have an Inquisitor go after The Child, since he is so strong in the ways of the force.

Can't Be Playing: A Gideon Relative

Moff Gideon

The relative plot has been seen a number of times before. There were a few rumors that Banks could portray a relative of Moff Gideon looking for revenge after his horrible actions, but this is a narrative thread that has been pulled on before.

It's more of a stretch to make and it wouldn't link the Mandalorian directly to the conflict. It's also an expected twist and Moff Gideon probably won't be humanised in any way.

Could Be Playing: A New Jedi

One of the biggest questions surrounding Banks is whether she is a Jedi. She has a Jedi robe, but how would she have survived Order 66 and the Empire without ever being found.

Despite the questions it makes sense that the series would introduce a new Jedi to bring The Child to his people. That is the plot of the second season and Banks would certainly make a skilled force user.
