Despite serving as the titular lead of The Mandalorian's debut season, there's a lot of mystery still surrounding Din Djarin, including his age. Pedro Pascal portrays the skilled bounty hunter, often referred to as "Mando." in the first Disney+ series set in the Star Wars universe. Here's how old Din is based on key details from the character's backstory.

Din is never portrayed as the talkative type, and instead remains reserved and focus on the job at hand. Although he represents the Mandalorians, he wasn't born into the clan. Din was adopted into the culture when he was rescued by members of the Death Watch at a young age during a series of tumultuous battles. He then joined the tribe and trained as a Mandalorian. Din was working as a bounty hunter following the fall of the Galactic Empire when he was hired by a remnant faction to find a 50-year-old asset. The "asset" turned out to be an infant alien that viewers referred to as Baby Yoda. Din took control of the infant and vowed to protect it from enemies, including the remnants of the Empire.

Din was rescued by Mandalorians during the Clone Wars, specifically 19 BBY (before the Battle of Yavin). Separatist battle droids targeted Din's homeworld, forcing his parents to hide him underground. His parents were killed in the attack, leaving him as an orphan at a young age. Din's birth date was never directly confirmed but he was presumably between the ages of 8 and 10 as a foundling. If that was truly the case, Din would have been born sometime around 29-27 BBY. Based on the timelines and the Star Wars calendar, Din is in his late 30s in The Mandalorian season 1.

The Mandalorian Season 1 Takes Place 5 Years After Return Of The Jedi

The Mandalorian's debut season is said to take place five years after 1983's Return of the Jedi. This confirms that the time period is 9 ABY (after the Battle of Yavin). Based on Din's predicted birth date range, his age would come down to 36 to 38-years-old when the bounty hunter is introduced in the series. This explains his maturity and deep understanding of the galaxy, even the dangerous outer rims. It would also suggest that Din gained a lot of experience through the Mandalore culture considering his skill in combat.

As for the comparisons between Din's age in The Mandalorian and Pascal's real age, the numbers aren't far off. The actor was 43-years-old when he was cast as Din and he had yet to reach 44 before filming ended for the first season. Filming for the follow-up season took place when Pascal was still 44 but he will officially be in his mid-40s when the new season hits Disney+. His age compared to the character's age might not matter since he isn't too keen on being seen without his helmet. It's difficult to question his age when his face is rarely shown in the series but that could change in the future.
