Like a good chunk of Star Wars fans, Mark Hamill is a little confused about how Boba Fett might appear in The Mandalorian. As one of the stars of the original films, Hamill has long been one of the most sought-after authorities on everything Star Wars. Fans were overjoyed when Hamill reprised his iconic role as Luke Skywalker for Disney's sequel trilogy, even if they sometimes took issue with how Luke was portrayed. Hamill played Luke for the very last time in last year's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and now he's ready to move on. Still, that likely won't stop fans from flocking to him for his opinions on what's going on in the Star Wars universe.

Said universe got a bit of a shock just last week when reports emerged that Temuera Morrison, the actor who played Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones, would be joining season 2 of The Mandalorian. Making things even more exciting is that Morrison is reportedly playing Boba Fett, the infamous bounty hunter from the original trilogy. Fans have long been fascinated with Boba even despite his small role and likely relish the idea of seeing more of him in The Mandalorian. The problem is, according to the movies, Boba isn't alive by the time The Mandalorian begins. In Return of the Jedi, Boba fell into a Sarlacc pit and was presumed dead.

That's as far as Hamill knows, as he told ET OnlineAfter sharing some praise for The Mandalorian, conversation inevitably turned to the arrival of Boba, to which Hamill said, "I thought he was a decade into getting digested at this point." Hamill then went on to add, "There’s so many ways they can go and John Favreau and Dave Filoni are both the right people for the job. They know it better than I do."

Boba Fett Return of the Jedi Sarlaac Pit

Boba's survival might have already been explained in some Star Wars novels, but if Favreau and Filoni opt to use that explanation, they could run into the same issue that plagued Darth Maul's appearance in Solo: A Star Wars StoryOnly a select group of fans are aware of the events that transpire in between the movies, while the casual audiences who only watch the films are unaware of these details. Granted, The Mandalorian season 2 might provide an understandable reason for Boba's continued existence, and it might not even faze fans who spent all this time thinking he was dead.

As Disney and Lucasfilm haven't officially commented on Boba's role in The Mandalorian, it's unclear how exactly they plan to handle it. Luckily, the second season is still on track to arrive on Disney+ in October, so fans won't have to wait longer than necessary to find out. Hamill raised a very fair point, and hopefully Favreau and Filoni have a great explanation planned to help soothe those who have concerns.
