He's lived a rough life, but how exactly did Boba Fett get all of his facial scars seen in season 2, episode 6 of The Mandalorian? Played by Temuera Morrison, Boba Fett's role on the Disney+ series was considerably hyped before the beginning of season 2, with the famed bounty hunter first glimpsed at the very end of the season 2 premiere (though without his signature helmet and armor). Finally making a proper debut in "Chapter 14: The Tragedy," Boba Fett afforded viewers a full, unhindered look at his heavily scarred face, leaving the question of how his face got that way in the first place.

Obviously Boba Fett's infamous encounter with the sarlacc in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi had something to do with this. Surviving being eaten by a subterranean monster and finding one's way out of its digestive system is bound to do more than a little damage, and this surely partially accounts for Fett's battle-worn face. Still, it's likely that Boba went through other trials, and it could simply be that living under the harsh conditions that he has on a planet like Tatooine did him no favors.

A desolate desert planet, Tatooine wouldn't have been the most hospitable place to live outside of some kind of established settlement, with Fett seeming to have taken on a life akin to that of hermit. Without his armor - itself damaged during the sarlacc incident anyway - and no clear indication of what kind of shelter he had taken on, Fett's face was open to sun burns and other kinds of damage from the barren conditions of surviving on Tatooine as he had, and this probably offers more context for the look of his face and the scars that he's taken on. Notably, Boba now wields a gaffi stick, one of the war clubs used by the Tusken Raiders, which suggests that he had a run-in with the ruthless desert-dwellers that ended with him picking up a weapon off one of their bodies.

Living on Tatooine in what looks to have been a fairly off-the-grid existence, run-ins with other inhabitants of the planet like the Tusken Raiders and krayt dragons would undoubtedly have been a major concern for Boba Fett. It's possible that Fett has seen some fairly harrowing battles after escaping the sarlacc that The Mandalorian has not yet gone into. Of course, with Cobb Vanth getting hold of his armor before passing it on to Mando, Fett would have had to face such battles without the benefit of being armored up for them, leaving his face further open to taking on some of the damage seen in his appearance on the show.

With season 2 nearing its end, The Mandalorian may not have much time to provide a complete explanation of what Boba Fett has been through before the season wraps up. Though his near-death experience in the belly of the underground beast clearly played some role in the scarring of his face, it probably doesn't give the full picture. However, Boba Fett's time on Tatooine can probably explain a bit about what kind of abuse his face has taken, between the planet's bitter topography and run-ins with a few other enemies.
