Though The Mandalorian season 1 is over, Baby Yoda continues to be a popular internet sensation and new fan art imagines the character with Steve Buscemi’s eyes. After completing its first season, it’s safe to say that Disney’s The Mandalorian has been a resounding success. This can be attributed to many things, but one character in particular is the big favorite.

Known to everyone as Baby Yoda, the latest Star Wars character to create a major stir is officially called The Child. The celebrity status reached by Baby Yoda was so sudden and so substantial that even Disney CEO Bob Iger was taken by surprise. In fact, it’s quite impressive just how consistently popular Baby Yoda is, given that fans of The Mandalorian really don’t know anything at all about him. The rumor mill has been running non-stop ever since the character first appeared in the Jon Favreau series, but so far, nothing has been confirmed. Perhaps one of the most popularly held beliefs was that Baby Yoda was a reincarnation of the same Jedi Master who passed away in Return of the Jedi. That theory has recently been debunked by Favreau, leaving fans no choice but to continue to discuss and mull over other possibilities. In the meantime, there has certainly been no shortage of hilarious and downright bizarre Baby Yoda memes floating around.

The most recent take on the beloved Star Wars character comes directly from Screen Rant’s own William Cennamo. With just a little extra attention and care, Baby Yoda’s eyes were swapped for Steve Buscemi’s and the results are surprisingly still cute. Buscemi has always favored roles that depict awkward or eccentric behaviour and the star’s very unique appearance seems to play a major part in that. In this particular case, placing his eyes into Baby Yoda’s sockets was a worthy experiment. Could the odd mixture work, or would it result in nothing less than sheer terror? As can be seen below, the end results appear to work just fine:

It’s been a strange couple of months since the character arrived on the scene. With no Baby Yoda merchandise immediately available, Disney was not prepared to meet what has been an insatiable demand for all things Baby Yoda. The delay on Mandalorian merchandise was intentional, with Favreau having requested the Mouse House respectfully hold off until the first season had premiered in order to avoid any spoilers. While this may have been for the best, it certainly didn’t do anything to satisfy hordes of The Mandalorian’s fans who wanted nothing more than Baby Yoda memorabilia. At the same time, however, the argument can be made that because of Disney’s decision to hold back on merchandise, Star Wars fans took to creating their own images and depictions of Baby Yoda, resulting in literally hundreds of online creations.

This isn’t to say that the world necessarily needed an image of Baby Yoda with Buscemi’s eyes, but Star Wars fans are definitely keeping themselves busy while waiting for official merchandise and The Mandalorian season 2 to premiere. At the very least, switching up Baby Yoda’s eyes for Buscemi’s proves it’s pretty tough to make the pint-sized favorite come off as even slightly off-putting.
