Jason O'Mara will be joining Amazon's drama series The Man in the High Castle, which is based on Phillip K. Dick's 1962 story of the same name. Earlier this year, the show was renewed by the streaming service for a third season, but updates on it since have been few and far between. Though there is no premiere date secured just yet, it stood reason to believe Amazon would want to get the ball rolling on the third season soon, capitalizing on the warm reception the series has generated thus far.

As television programs continue through multi-season runs, it's never out of the question for them to add to the cast to keep things fresh and interesting. Enter O'Mara, who will be a regular cast member in the third season.

The news comes courtesy of Deadline, who say the actor will be keeping his native Irish accent for the role, as he'll be a refugee from Ireland. Although there's no official word as of yet where his allegiances lie, some details were about the character he'll portray. They give us an insight into the type of person this new series lead will be:

"Irish-born O’Mara will play the rugged Wyatt Price, a new male lead character opposite Alexa Davalos, Rupert Evans and Rufus Sewell. Fleeing the war in Europe, Price’s family immigrated to New York from Ireland as refugees, then fled west again ahead of the Nazi invasion. Like most in the Neutral Zone, he’s learned to survive as a hustler, trading in various black market goods and services. But he’s more than just a survivor – he believes in what America was and what the Neutral Zone still is – a melting pot worth saving."

It looks like O'Mara will lean towards to the side of the American Resistance, but given his survivalist nature, who knows what he might do to get by? By the sounds of the description, he still believes in the old America, which will likely put him on a path against the Greater Nazi Reich and the Japanese Pacific States. A future revolutionary perhaps? With his apparent family history, fleeing Ireland for New York and then into the Neutral Zone - the show runners have some excellent chances for a well crafted backstory.

Given that the show took huge steps towards the ending of the second season, it's likely that the show-runners are looking for a small change of pace to ensure the series doesn't become stale. It looks like that change is here in the form of O'Mara's character. The character description implies that he's a bit of a rogue, which could make way for some interesting scenes and dynamics with other characters.

This news comes soon after the casting of William Forsythe as J. Edgar Hoover. The former FBI Director will be appearing in the third season, but there's no news as to how he'll play into the plot of the flagship drama series from Amazon. It's unlikely that Hoover and Price will share any screen time given their separate statuses, but anything goes with this sci-fi period thriller. Jason O'Mara is known for his work on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Terra Nova and voicing Batman in the DC Animated Movies.

The Man in the High Castle season 2 is now available on Amazon. Season 3 does not have a premiere date yet.
