Mama June Shannon, the matriarch on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and the spinoff series From Not To Hot, quickly fell from the height of her career to the pits of rock bottom. At one point, June and her questionable boyfriend Geno Doak were dropping $2,500 a day on meth as her daughters pleaded with her to seek help. After much trial and error, that's exactly what she did. Recently, Mama June revealed on social media that she and Geno are celebrating one year sober.

The reality star's downward spiral was chronicled on WE tv's From Not To Hot season four, which was rightfully rebranded as Mama June: Family Crisis. Daughter Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson, 15, was forced to reside with her 21-year-old sister Lauryn "Pumpkin" Shannon, in addition to Pumpkin's husband Josh Efird and baby Ella Grace. Mama June was in no fit state to be a mother. She sold the family home and disappeared to North Carolina with Geno, where she regularly frequented casinos looking completely out of it. June and Geno were also spotted in seedy parts of Georgia living out of the car. While June's children demanded she leave Geno, who they believed was having a detrimental influence on their mom, she unflinchingly chose her man...and drugs...over the girls.

But eventually, realization hit June. She was isolating herself from her children and granddaughter. Her health was at stake and her teeth were falling out. Something needed to change. Following a few failed attempts at recovery, she and Geno recently marked one year of sobriety. June shared on Instagram a photo of herself and Geno, both looking happier and healthier than ever. She reflected on February 2020, when they were staying at a truck stop in Georgia "just trying to figure out where we was going to be able to make money for our next high or even food and gas." One day, they decided enough was enough and called on the show's production team to get them into recovery. June and Geno were at Banyan Treatment Center in Stuart, Florida for 23 days and now hope to inspire others to follow suit. June said, "My goal is to work inside of a rehab facility to be able to watch people come in at their lowest where I was a year ago n blossom into new amazing person n know my inbox is always open."

While some of June's followers expressed concern that Geno will relapse and drag her back into addiction, others were extremely supportive and understanding. One commenter said, "Everyone is so critical with you and Geno. You on drugs is not really you. And the same for Geno. We saw what Geno was like when he was sober. He was absolutely f***ing amazing to you, Alana and Pumpkin ... Your kids are proud of you and that's all that matters."

There were many precious moments between Geno and Alana. In one episode of From Not To Hot, Pumpkin transformed Honey Boo Boo's bedroom into a nursery for Ella without asking. In response, Geno redesigned a spare room just for Alana, complete with snacks, fuzzy pillows and stuffed animals. Alana truly saw Geno as a second father figure. Hopefully, some level of trust can be rebuilt between Mama June and her kids, as well as Geno and Alana.
