Maleficent is one of the few villains that Disney has been able to turn into a heroine. Instead of re-telling the age-old classic from Sleeping Beauty's point of view, Disney hired Angelina Jolie to humanize the dark fairy.

After the success of the first installment followed by 2019's Maleficent 2: Mistress of Evil, this antihero's tale has brought on a new wave of admiration for the character. So much so that cosplayers have taken the time to assemble the costumes from the live-action films out of pure inspiration. And of course, there are plenty of Maleficent outfits to choose from. Take a look at these ten stunning cosplayers who recreated these iconic costumes.

Barbara Moreno

Barbara is a dedicated Maleficent cosplayer. This is likely due to her uncanny resemblance to Angelina Jolie. This is only one of the many Maleficent cosplays that this talented woman has put together.

This look is from last year's film adaptation, which includes the archetypal headpiece with the elaborate twisted horns. This particular dress is embellished with bones and claws which bode well with her extravagant wings. Barbara's wings actually look like they might have been snatched from the Disney film set!

Avera Cosplay

Here's a Maleficent you don't see every day. This armored look is inspired by Zack Fischer Art, who is a well-known cosplay designer. The design includes flanked crows on the corset and an emerald green headpiece with notes of purple in the wings and costume (no doubt as a salute to the original Maleficent character).

Cosplayer, Avera, took on this impressive costume challenge and finished it with flying colors. No small amount of detail went unnoticed, as you can see from the intricacy in her armored Maleficent cosplay. Avera has even entered this real-life work of art into a few cosplay competitions.

Stavvy Cosplay

Sometimes it's fun to play the villain. Despite the recent retelling of this character, the original concept is still one that people enjoy cosplaying. Stavvy is well-known for her makeup skills and colorful costumes, so this version suits her well.

Everything about Stavvy's take on Maleficent is reminiscent of the character from the 1959 animated Sleeping Beauty film. From the green makeup to Diablo, Maleficent's black raven, all the classic details are included. Cosplayers and cosplay fans alike can appreciate Stavvy's remarkable gift as both a makeup artist and a cosplayer.

Xero Gravity

Cosplay is all about using your imagination. And what better character to reimagine than one with a design as complex as Maleficent? That's exactly what this cosplayer did for her closet cosplay. By adding feathers to her corset and a few props to fit the villain's aesthetic, she was able to make an original renaissance-esque Maleficent outfit.

Some of Xero Gravity's other unique cosplays include her punk Harley Quinn and her genderbent Miles Morales.

Andrasta

One of the most favored costumes designs from Maleficent 2 is her tattered feathered dress. Many cosplayers will recreate this look, typically in conjunction with her massive wings.

Cosplayer Andrasta decided to take a different route for this concept. She managed to put together this cosplay together instantly by only using a scarce amount of material (or maybe it's latex?). It's mind-blowing that she was able to use just makeup and a few pieces of fabric to completely transform herself into Maleficent.

Natalya

Talk about a power pose. Natalya is a cosplayer and special effects makeup artist whose talent knows no bounds. She has been able to turn herself into the Terminator, the Joker, among a slew of other characters. The way she is able to transform into each of these characters is truly fascinating.

Her Maleficent cosplay is a unique design, but it is clearly just as powerful as her other cosplays. The most eye-catching aspect of her costume is the beautifully constructed and detailed wings that span from head to toe. She wears them with a form-fitting latex suit which she pairs with Maleficent's standard headpiece and staff.

Malévola

Another Angelina Jolie doppelganger, Malévola makes sure to try on all of Maleficent's designs. This simple selfie shows a close-up at her carefully drawn makeup. Everything from her chiseled cheeks and jawline to the winged eyeliner proves that this cosplayer did her homework.

Malévola combines the look with a rare white outfit and those lavish wings. We can guarantee you that this is one Maleficent cosplay that would stop you in your tracks.

Sharon Rose

Another fabulous and original concept that can't be beaten. Sharon Rose is a talented foam smither and cosplayer who is known for taking her cosplays to the max. With her costumes, it's all about finding a look that is all her own. Her Maleficent cosplay, in particular, is truly mesmerizing with its green and purple hues along with the complex foam work that went into her corset.

Sharon's cosplays have even caught the attention of the big leagues. Marvel asked her to be a part of their Marvel Becoming series where she explains in detail how she made her own Captain Marvel cosplay (which was later signed by Brie Larson herself). Do yourself a favor and head on over to Sharon's account to see the complicated  work that goes into each of her costumes!

Alyson Tabbitha

It's hard not to mention Alyson Tabbitha when you're talking about cosplay because she is, simply, one of the greats. Alyson's claim to fame comes from the astonishing techniques that she uses to transform herself into literally any character.

Her Maleficent cosplay is no exception. Alyson also has a knack for making her cosplay from scratch (usually in a budget-friendly fashion). In her YouTube tutorial, you can see for yourself how Alyson makes her massive wings out of a little craft foam and acrylic paint.

Daniel Amaro

And finally, we have Daniel's masterfully crafted gender-bent Male-leficent cosplay. Genderbent cosplays (also known as genderbending) is when cosplayers make original costumes for characters of the opposite sex. For example, Daniel decided to mold together his own perception of what the male counterpart of this classic Disney villain might look like.

Daniel made sure to include the staple parts of Maleficent's costume, such as her headpiece and staff. He even made sure to touch on the original color scheme and kept the look of her distressed purple and black cape. However, in his version, Maleficent has detailed body armor, complete with shoulder, arm, and shinguards. You don't see many Male-leficent cosplays, which is why we're glad we stumbled upon this creative concept.
