Magmortar is an absolute powerhouse of a Fire-type Pokémon, and players can get one for themselves in Pokémon Legends: Arceus through a few different methods. Magmortar is the final evolution of Magmar and was introduced to the series through Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl. Though it may not be as popular of a choice as other Fire-type Pokémon such as Infernape, Magmortar is undoubtedly one of the best Fire-type options in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

What often prevents players from using a Magmortar in any Pokémon game is its average Defense, Speed, and HP stats, which can significantly harm its chances of winning battles against opponents with a type advantage. For example, a Kleavor in Pokémon Legends: Arceus can outspeed a Magmortar, and it will likely knock Magmortar out in one shot with a physical Rock-type attack. Nonetheless, Magmortar does have its uses and can be an excellent choice when players are up against Ice-, Grass-, Bug-, Steel-, and even Fairy-type Pokémon.

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, players can receive a Magmortar by either using a Magmarizer or by finding one in a Space-Time distortion. In previous Pokémon games, a Magmar could only evolve into Magmortar if it was holding the Magmarizer item during a trade. While Pokémon cannot hold items in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the Magmarizer is still a required item to use on Magmar in order for it to evolve. Simply use the Magmarizer in Pokémon Legends: Arceus like a Dawn Stone from the item bag on Magmar, and the Pokémon will begin evolving into Magmortar immediately. To catch a Magmortar outright in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, head to the Coronet Highlands and await a Space-Time Distortion area to appear.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus - How To Get Merit Points (& What They're For)

The Magmarizer is an extremely rare item to find on its own in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, though players may be able to find them in Space-Time Distortion areas as well. If not, a Magmarizer can be purchased in exchange for 1400 Merit Points from the Trading Post in Jubilife Village. Merit Points can be earned easily by picking up the player satchels scattered throughout the Hisui region in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and then claiming the rewards from the Lost and Found menu. Additionally, like the Moon Stone in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, players can purchase a Magmarizer from Ginter at the Ginkgo Guild Shop for 10,000 Poké Dollars, though the items will be called the Magma Box.

The best nature that a Magmortar can have in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is Modest, which increases its Special Attack stat and lowers its physical Attack stat. The Modest nature allows Magmortar to fully capitalize on its biggest strength, which is its ability to use a variety of Special Attacks like Fire Blast, Thunderbolt, Psychic, and Hyper Beam. Alternatively, players may find it best to replace Hyper Beam with Rest, which allows Magmortar to heal itself as it shakes off the drowsy status effect change in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
