The Magicians Season 4 Trailer: The Fight To Bring Magic Back Starts Here

Season 4 of SYFY’s The Magicians won’t premiere until January 2019, but the network still has a sparkling new trailer to get fans excited. The series has been a strong performer for the genre-centric cable channel, and considering the show is an adaptation of the popular novels from author Lev Grossman, it’s really no surprise. With season 3 coming to a cliffhanger ending this past April, it’s high time for the series to return, and when it does, the Magicians will be entering into a world that’s unlike anything they’ve encountered before.

Much of that has to do with the fallout from the season 3 storyline, which saw Quentin (Jason Ralph), Julia (Stella Maeve), Eliot (Hale Appleman), Penny (23 or original, both played by Arjun Gupta), Alice (Olivia Taylor Dudley, Margo (Summer Bishil), Kady (Jade Tailor), and Josh (Trevor Einhorn), try to bring back magic. That quest inadvertently put the Library in control on the flow of magic, while simultaneously unleashing an all-powerful entity known as The Monster. It all added up to another multifaceted season-long narrative that will have huge implications on where the series goes next.

As it turns out, next will bring the Magicians into something of a police state run by the Library, while The Monster — now inhabiting Eliot’s body — is on a quest of his own, one that involves Quentin and the others. Check out the full trailer below:

Unsurprisingly, the new trailer offers a lot to process in a single viewing. It makes clear that the students are up against some very frightening foes who are looking to change the order of the world (or worlds) by putting the flow of magic into the hands of the few and the powerful. The real-world allusion shouldn’t be too hard to spot there, and it would seem that series show runners John McNamara and Sera Gamble aren’t exactly playing coy when it comes to making such comments. That’s certainly in keeping with the tone and direction of the series over the past three seasons, which should make for a charged season 4 to be sure.

The other main storyline, that of The Monster, will certainly require plenty of the season’s attention, too. That one, however, stands to be more personal, as one of the key member of the core group has become a vessel for an all-power entity. All in all, it looks as though season 4 of The Magicians will be another wild ride.
