Why Mike Really Agreed To Go To London With Maxandra

magic mike's last dance london

Mike was struggling at the start of Magic Mike’s Last Dance. His furniture building business was gone, and he didn’t strip anymore. He was working a dead-end job as a bartender, and Maxandra was not only offering Mike thousands of dollars but a dream to direct his own stripper dance show and utilize his talents uniquely. Mike was hesitant because he couldn’t believe any of it was real at first, but he knew he had nothing to lose so off he went to London. Mike also wanted money to pay back his friends, the Kings of Tampa, whom he had borrowed money from.

Mike felt guilty for not being able to do more, and London was one of the few options presented to him in which he could make thousands of dollars in only a month. Additionally, Mike desired love. Magic Mike’s Last Dance truly hit home how unlucky in love he was; he seemed very lonely and down at the start of the film. Going to London with Maxandra allowed him to spend more time with her, coming to genuinely care for and love Max in a way he hadn’t loved anyone before. Going to London was Mike’s way of getting his own happy ending.

What Happened To The Kings Of Tampa?

The main characters in Magic Mike XXL, shirtless and posing sexily on stage in front of a packed audience

The Kings of Tampa — Tito, Ken, Big Dick Richie, and Tarzan — appeared in a Zoom call with Mike. They all seem to have retired from stripping, likely having been affected by the pandemic like Mike. Ken was into reading Mike’s charts in a bid to foresee a silver lining in his future, while Richie was zooming in from his home. At least one of them has had their heart broken by a woman. Beyond that, there isn’t a lot of information about what exactly they’re up to now, only that they’re still friends with Mike. If Magic Mike XXL is anything to go by, however, the Kings of Tampa have moved on.

Maxandra’s Plans For Isabel Ascendant Explained

magic mike's last dance maxandra

Maxandra is on a mission to revamp Isabel Ascendant. Maxandra wanted to create something that would give women the same pleasure and empowerment that she felt during Mike’s lap dance. Maxandra’s story is not so different from Isabel’s — she’s in a situation where it’s money over love, and she likely sees herself in Isabel. Maxandra has some power, but her ability to choose who she wants and what she does is limited by the confines of her marriage. Producing Mike’s show was a way to break free from that, giving back to other women the same feeling Mike reawakened in her at the start of Magic Mike’s Last Dance.

Why Does Mike Owe His Friends Money?magic mike's last dance channing tatum

Mike reveals in the Zoom call with the Kings of Tampa that he owes them money. They think nothing of it, but Mike is adamant about paying them back. Mike’s furniture business went under during the pandemic, so it’s possible his friends loaned him money to keep it afloat. Mike may have also borrowed money from the Kings of Tampa to pay bills while in-between jobs. Mike was clearly not doing so well in the opening of Magic Mike’s Last Dance. Considering how close he was to his friends, it makes sense they wanted to help him out, even if the reason is not fully explored in the film.

Why Zadie Finally Calls Maxandra Mom

magic mike's last dance zadie maxandra

Zadie spends the entirety of Magic Mike’s Last Dance calling Maxandra by her given name. Zadie’s entire demeanor suggests she feels obligated to her parents because they adopted her from an orphanage, but she creates a distance between herself and Salma Hayek's character, who she thinks is a bit of a mess. As the Magic Mike XXL sequel goes on, it’s clear Zadie has affection for her mother despite their quibbles. When Zadie finally calls Maxandra “mum,” it shows Zadie’s own growth and affection. She wants Maxandra to succeed and be loved. That meant showing up for her mother in a way she hadn’t before. It was a way of letting love in.

Will Mike Stay In London For Good?

Magic Mike’s Last Dance ends with Mike and Maxandra declaring their love for one another. With Maxandra officially divorced, it’s likely Mike will stick around in London to be with her. After all, there’s not much left in Miami for him, what with his business having tanked and no romantic relationships to maintain. Though Maxandra may not have money left after finalizing her divorce with Roger, London is her home base, and where Zadie has grown up. Mike and Maxandra’s stage show was also a success, which suggests they could make a living from that. With their responsibilities to the show and their budding relationship, Mike could be in London for the foreseeable future.

What Is The Significance Of The Unicorn?

Fake bills proudly stating “In unicorns we trust” are thrown around during Magic Mike’s Last Dance’s finale performance. It’s also referenced by Juliette Motamed’s Hannah, aka “Isabel” in the original Isabel Ascendant. The unicorn represents a woman’s freedom, the ability to choose what she wants and who she wants, to experience desire. The unicorn idea is born out of something Maxandra says earlier in Magic Mike’s Last Dance, and the creature symbolizes a fantasy becoming a reality. Here, the unicorn is in service to a woman’s wants, a wish coming true and being realized onstage and in Maxandra’s own life.

How Magic Mike’s Last Dance Sets Up A Spinoffmagic mike's last dance spinoff

Director Steven Soderbergh has teased Magic Mike spinoffs. In July 2022, the director stated that there could still be stories told that involve the “same subjects that still involve dance but don’t have Mike Lane.” Magic Mike’s Last Dance doesn’t make a concrete effort in that direction, but it does introduce a plethora of dancers, many of whom appeared in Magic Mike Live. The use of new dancers means another movie could focus on them as a group as they learn the trade of stripping and utilizing their dancing talents in the future. A Magic Mike spinoff could also center one character on his journey and go from there.

The Real Meaning Of Magic Mike’s Last Dance Explained

magic mike's last dance ending explained

Magic Mike’s Last Dance is all about a woman’s freedom. The film is largely focused on Maxandra and her aims to build something outside of her ex-husband’s shadow. She has power and control, but there remain obstacles in her path — she can never go as far as she’d like because there are invisible ropes keeping her tied down. It’s also established that Maxandra hasn’t always known what she’s wanted; she hadn’t found her passion for something to fully commit to it. Magic Mike’s Last Dance shows the significance of Maxandra (and women in general) finding her own voice and overcoming societal expectations to live the life she wants.
