A third Magic Mike film is officially in the works, with Channing Tatum returning alongside director Steven Soderbergh and screenwriter Reid Carolin. Soderbergh is returning to the series after directing the first film in 2012, but then passing the duties on to Gregory Jacobs for the 2015 sequel Magic Mike XXL. Soderbergh did return as the cinematographer and editor for the sequel, while Carolin was the sole screenwriter for both films. Tatum has consistently been the face of the Magic Mike series, which is loosely based on his own experiences as a young stripper in Florida.Six years have passed since Magic Mike XXL hit theaters, but the series has been far from dead. A stage show titled Magic Mike Live was successfully launched in 2017. The show has toured the globe and recently announced a North American tour which will kick off next year. A Magic Mike dance competition show called Finding Magic Mike will also be hitting HBO Max in just a few weeks on December 16th. The reality series set in Las Vegas will have ten contestants competing against each other to win the title of the Real Magic Mike.Now the news has come out that a third Magic Mike film is officially in the works. Channing Tatum and Warner Bros. announced that the threequel Magic Mike's Last Dance is in development as an original film set to premiere exclusively on HBO Max. Tatum made the announcement by posting an image of the film's script on social media, confirming that director Steven Soderbergh and screenwriter Reid Carolin are indeed returning. He said, "As soon as I saw what Channing, Reid, and the Magic Mike choreographic team did with the live show, I said we have to make another one. Mike Lane's dream of connecting people through dance must be realized." Warner Bros. Chairman Toby Emmerich also stated that he's thrilled to be working with Tatum, Soderbergh, and Carolin on another Magic Mike film, adding, "Is there anybody on screen more charismatic and appealing than Magic Mike?"There's no word yet on who else will be returning for Magic Mike's Last Dance. In an interview last year, series co-star Joe Manganiello stated that he's retired from Magic Mike and wouldn't be interested in returning for a third entry. At the time, there was no official word on a Magic Mike 3, so only time will tell if Manganiello will follow through on his statements now that Last Dance is officially happening.
