Magic Leap has revealed its next-gen augmented reality headset, which has new features not previously available in commercial AR headsets. Companies like Meta and Apple have AR glasses in development that are aimed at a consumer-level market. Other competing developers are going after premium markets, offering advanced AR features for more expensive devices.

With the market for AR and VR expanding, developers are pushing the capabilities of the technology and creating new possibilities for user interactions. Soon, there may be AR interactions that don't require the user to wear a headset or glasses to view the experience. For example, The Walt Disney Company is working on AR Rides without 3D glasses for Disney parks.

The Magic Leap 2 AR headset has been released as the long-awaited follow-up to the original Magic Leap headset. This next-generation device includes first-of-its-kind features targeted toward business consumers at the enterprise level. Some of the new features include dynamic dimming technology, a large field of view, high-resolution image and text legibility, and a relatively light and compact frame. Set at a premium price, the device also comes with support for Magic Leap's open platform. Besides the pricier 'Developer Pro' and 'Enterprise' editions, there is a consumer-level 'Base' edition.

Although the Magic Leap 2 Base edition is said to be a consumer-level device, many customers may be turned off by the price. Starting at $3,299, the base-level headset is not aimed at the average consumer. While the AR headset may not be the most affordable option, the impressive advancements in augmented reality features may be enough to entice premium clients and AR enthusiasts with higher budgets.

Consumers will soon have several AR and VR headsets available to choose from, providing users with a variety of ways to engage with immersive virtual experiences. As the metaverse becomes more integrated with the real world, it will be important for consumers to have access to the devices that work best for them. While some users may prefer to opt for the latest device with the most advanced features, others may prefer more affordable options. Either way, consumers have a greater variety of virtual reality and augmented reality devices available than ever before.
