Mana, might, magic – Magic: The Gathering players are about to get a huge summer of releases with the Summer Of Legend event. Starting with weekly MTG reveals for Modern Horizons II set on May 20, players will be trampled with new Magic cards, game variants, and worlds to explore. The preview for Modern Horizons officially begins on May 24, and full card images will be released on June 2. Magic: The Gathering arena fans will get earlier access to the new cards to fill their virtual decks, as the set arrives June 3. Pre-release will then begin June 11 with a week filled with surprises, including the long-awaited return of sanctioned in-store play. Spells will officially be cast on June 18, when the set releases worldwide on June 18.
Summer of Legend may kick off with Horizon II, but there will be plenty more magic where that came from, as long as players have the mana. Dungeons & Dragons Dark Alliance officially launches on June 22 for current and next-gen consoles, as well as PC. The RPG set in the Forgotten Realms will follow R.A. Salvatore’s iconic character, Drizzt Do-Urden, as he and his band of champions take on the fantasy world’s legendary foes. The adventure will also bring a new age of couch co-op, with up to four battles able to split the screen and monster brains.
According to a Magic: The Gathering blog post, the Summer of Legend event is going to be big. From New Horizons II to the long-awaited Dark Alliance video game release, Planeswalkers are going to have plenty of content to keep them busy. Also revealed is the Dungeons & Dragons Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, a new set release that teleports players into the iconic D&D world.
The preview begins on June 29 and Magic: The Gathering Arena players will be able to summon the set on July 8. The schedule of prerelease events, from webcam prerelease play to in-store play, will take place July 16-22, with the worldwide release on July 23. The set includes freshly imagined landscaped, weapons, and villains from the Forgotten Realms, from Vorpal Swords to a Beholder. There is even a specially designed Tiamat card fit for a true Planeswalker to command. The cards will be available in both Dungeons $ Dragons Adventures in the Forgotten Realms booster packs and boxes, as well as in collector boosters and bundles. A theme booster for each color will also be available in select stores.
Though a Dungeons & Dragons focus will take over the Summer of Legend event mid-summer, Wizards of the Coast and Magic: The Gathering have one extra surprise for players. There isn’t a lot confirmed about the release, but it is expected to bring fans a lot of excitement. Secret Lair, a superdrop for MTG will arrive soon after the massive Forgotten Realms release, with more details being revealed soon. With "secret" in its name, there is no telling what surprises (and loot) lies within.
On top of all the deck-building and monster-slaying fun for Magic: The Gathering fans, Wizards of the Coast is officially reopening sanctioned Magic play in the United States starting May 28. Of course, local restrictions will vary, however, many local stores are sure to participate. The time has finally come for players to prove their worth during Friday Night Magic, once again.
