Wizards of the Coast has announced the 2023 sets for Magic: The Gathering, which will include the return to some fan-favorite planes. The remaining MTG sets for 2022 have already been revealed, with the next one being Dominaria United on September 9, which features a return to the original MTG setting, as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations for the series.

2022 has been a big year for MTG, with the cyberpunk-fueled Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty set, characters from Street Fighter appearing as part of the Universes Beyond line, and the Streets of New Capenna set bringing fantasy prohibition-era gangsters into the game. MTG also had another crossover with D&D, with Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate bringing heroes from the Baldur's Gate series into the game as Commanders. 2022 isn't done yet, as the MTG Universes Beyond line will be adding Warhammer 40k Commander Decks to the game.

Wizards Of The Coast announced a lot of upcoming content for MTG and D&D during the Wizards Presents event on August 18. This presentation included the reveal of the names of all the premiere sets coming in 2023. These sets will include a long-running Phyrexian storyline, a return to Eldraine, and some deadly adventures in Ixalan.

Wizards of the Coast showed an infographic during the Wizards Presents event that revealed the names of the 2022-23 MTG sets, as well loose release windows. Fans already know the identity of the Dominaria United and The Brother's War sets, as well as their release dates. The big reveals from the infographic are Phyrexia: All Will Be One in Q1 2023, March of the Machine in Q2 2023, and March of the Machine: The Aftermath in Q2 2023, all of which will be part of the Phyrexian story arc. These will be followed by Wilds of Eldraine in Q2 2023, which will feature a return to MTG's fairytale-inspired plane. The last of the announced sets is Lost Caverns of Ixalan in Q4 2023, which features the jungle plane of Ixalan, and Wizards of the Coast has mentioned the set will include pirates, dinosaurs, and vampires vying for dominance.

The Wizards Presents event revealed a ton of information about upcoming MTG content, including information about new Universes Beyond sets. MTG fans now know that Eldraine and Ixalan will be featured in 2023 sets, even if the details are still scant at the moment. 2023 marks the 30th anniversary of Magic: The Gathering and Wizards of the Coast has a lot prepared to celebrate the history of the game.
