The story of Puella Magi Madoka Magica is continuing in a sequel movie to 2013's Rebellion. Madoka Magica aired in Japan in 2011. To say the 12-episode anime was successful would be an understatement. Critics praised its writing and subversion of the typically cheerful magical girl genre of anime/manga. The story follows Madoka Kaname, a middle school student who gets involved with the world of magical girls and witches. The show takes some complex and dark turns, but ends in a hopeful manner as Madoka's wish frees all magical girls from the curse of becoming witches. In 2013, a sequel movie titled Rebellion released. Controversially, the ending saw Homura Akemi rewrite reality. Many have been waiting to see what happens next.

A 10th anniversary event was recently held for Madoka Magica, and with it came new announcements. The biggest (via Anime News Network) is Rebellion is finally getting a sequel film with the translated title Turning the Tide of Walpurgis. The original anime's creators are returning, including Gen Urobuchi. The Japanese voice actors for Madoka, Homura, Mami, Sayaka, Kyōko, Nagissa, and Kyubey are reprising their roles. The anime's original composer, Yuki Kajiura, along with studio Shaft, are also returning. Check out a poster and teaser (via ANIPLEX Youtube Channel) below.

The poster's tagline reads, "Now, let's continue the story." The title mentioning "Walpurgus" is interesting. Walpurgisnacht was the final witch in the original anime, so it sounds like she could be a major factor again. It will be interesting seeing where Puella Magi Madoka Magica goes after Rebellion's ending and if Madoka will come into conflict with Homura.
